Pretty sure everyone will be rooting for Union Omaha in this one. This one finally broke me. ESPN+ gets my money.
I want to win this. I mean, it looks like winner plays Sacramento in the semis. this is now a legit chance at winning silverware this season. It still isn't a great chance. I hold no illusions that we're too good for Omaha, or Sacramento, but we should have a fighting chance. and if we can beat two lower league sides, that means a final, and we all know anything can happen in a one off.
SKC definitely have the capability to win this. I think it's gonna come down to, as cliche as possible, mentality.
I do hope our mentality is that this is our chance, because BCS we're 9th in the west this year. I'd rather have a wooden spoon and a US Cup than 9th and out in the qfs. I'd rather have a final, at least, something to inspire, at all, this season
Taking care of business... great opportunity to get to the final if we can play like that in the next round... let's Paint The Wall! It's been a minute.
I couldn't get the ESPN+ stream to work on my Surface, but I was able to watch it on my phone. I realize Union Omaha is a Division 3 team that we should beat but 6-0, which could have been more was nice to see. We have played so poorly for large stretches of this season, it was nice to see the ship somewhat righted.
Do we know when they hold the draw to determine who's at home? Also, the schedule? Will we see to see the two new guys debut in a semi-final? In 2019, the semis were played Aug 7,8, with the final two or three weeks later, butthe Qfs were in July. If that's the guage, the semis will be mid-july. I think.
The semi might be perfectly placed for a first start for the new players. Looking at the Blue Testament piece on how summer signings have fit in, that might be optimisitic. OTOH, Martins arrived and moved pretty quickly into the everday lineup, and our situation isn't that different, in that we've been starting Roger way too much for a 63 year old
Union Omaha is USL 1, the same tier of US Soccer as MLS Next Pro. From a talent perspective that quarterfinal was a scrimmage with SKC II. Yet again, the USOC is how SKC will placate the fanbase.
A resounding win is beautiful here. Happy for it. The last thing this low-confidence team needed was to lose at home to a lower-tier team. Scrapping out a win would have been okay... but a really good performance, no matter who against, is perfect. The team still has a very outside shot at the playoffs, but some morale-boosting here, coupled with the improvement in both composure and form from Duke and Hernandez, and topped off with a couple new signings? Maybe they can do it! Playoffs or not, I very wildly hope to see SKC take the USOC this year.
