SJMN (5/18) - "In 7 goal affair, Quakes beat Crew"

OK I wake up and I’m still happy about last night and I try to watch MLS wrap on FSW and it’s no longer on in the morning. Guess I can sleep in next week.

So instead I search through the SJMN and find the sports section to read about the game. After last night’s win I expected a page-one story with a color photo. Wrong. No story, no photo, not even a tease at the top of the page.

What is on page-one; a big picture of a horse and (empty handed) jockey, an opinion piece about a story that happens next week and has already been written about way too much, and a story (with picture) about a fourth-string quarterback. Looks like they put page-one to bed at about 4:00 pm yesterday, and that more people bet on horse racing than soccer.

Now there is a decent story on page four, with a good picture of Ross Paule (we scored four times and no one could take a picture of our team on offense) but it just doesn’t seem like enough. Until today I had thought the SJMN was getting a little better with their soccer coverage, but I guess they still have a way to go.

Maybe it's just me but I went looking for the write-ups about the game from the various online papers and it appears the media, like many fans, opted to ignore this game. I only found this one article from the Mercury-News.

Since last night's game also was not on the Shootout package it makes me wonder...are the various media outlets getting their stories by just watching at home on TV? ;-)

It really is disappointing. Here, we have the top two clubs on the MLS table on a gorgeous night, giving the American audience what they want--lots of scoring. And yet, there is hardly a whisper about it in the media this morning. Glad to see that we were ALL OVER that "49ers release Cade McNown" story today. Guess that has more far-reaching affect.

Score one for the Mercury-News. I know they catch a lot of heat from us but they should also be praised when they come through...like this week.

Thanks for that, Dark Cloud. I don't receive the actual newspaper so I didn't get that "view" of their coverage treatment. Guess I should revise my comments about SJMN to say "at least they get a brownie point for being the only one to acknowledge the game in some form."

No brownie points for them! This is a SAN JOSE team, a major league one at that, who are undeafeted 6 games into the season, on a slow sports day. And this match was one of the most exciting ones there will be this season. If that's not front page, with a picture, Fvck em. SJMN, sucks!

For once, both major area papers had articles on the day of the match and match coverage day after. Frankly, I could give a **** about the placement.
