I was told there were three keepers training with the team last week. J-co, Saunders, and ???? I'm wondering who this third keeper is.

A week long tryout?? Is he going to Dallas afterwards?? I have never heard of such a touted player getting a tryout when more than one club is interested. Does anyone have any information on this type of situation, cuz i have never heard of it.

it is one thing to be a discovery player from nowhere, but another to be a player who has been inquired about by more than one team. maybe i am wrong. will someone shed some light on this?

look forward to seeing him play on sunday though.

His rights are owned by Dallas, but that does not mean Dallas is actually interested in him. However, it does mean that if we want him, we will have to give Dallas a player or some draft picks.

It would seem that whatever rights Dallas may have had in Jonny would have expired long ago?

I don't think we have any kind of rights remaining.

My guess.....it's a matter of seeing if he is worth the $$$ he wants. Conway comes cheap as does Saunders, If the Quakes wanna sign a Discovery (field)player they might wanna keep the low dollar keepers they have unless Walker just blows them away....hence, the tryout. I think he'd really have to dazzle Yallop to end up here.

try to be humble and it comes back to bite you in the arse....

well jerks, i just wanted to give you a chance to see if your insight and connections were as good as mine.

no other team is interested in walker. jordan only to colorado if he comes back. Jeff Cassar to Dallas, and Walker to San Jose.

unless the kid has a nightmahre and frank passes on him.

    Da truth

I still think that anything less than a Kahn-esque performance will keep him out of San Jose....unless of course he's willing to work for Conway-esque wages. I saw three Conway matches last season. He was the man in one game, vs KC(?). Against Pachuca he was erratic and seemed to be a bundle of nerves and the only reason he got a shut out was due to the lack of offense by the mexicans. They were playing to move on. Against LA in the USOC, he was ok....the game winner by Ruiz was un-stopable and was the fault of Agoos and Conrad, not Conway. I say go with Conway and Saunders and save the cap space.

Quake keepers: Walker and Conway. You need a healthy battle at gk. Sanders will not give that.

Unless Dallas cut him, the rights should still remain. There is no time limit on them.

Conway gives me the shakes everytime I see him in goal. He comes way off of his line way to soon. He seems to loose his cool and therefore his composure way to quick. Go out to see him practice at West Valley, he doesn't exactly inspire confidance.

Jonny Walker is coming off of a highly touted season in Chile. I suspect that he is head and shoulders above Conway and maybe even better than Howard. I am sure that he wants to play in the MLS so that Arena has a chance to see him and evaluate him for 06. Walker wants to have a call up to the USMNT. Arena watches the Quakes often enough (he has stated that he wants to build a team around Donovan), this would be a great place to get seen.

I maybe wrong, but I doubt it.

Jon's been the back up for long enough, that it seems only fair to him that the Quakes not consider Walker merely based on where's he's been, but instead give him a try out. He's been playing out of the country, so in some measure, I would suspect part of the reason for his visit is also a medical.

If MLS were to sign Walker and Dallas simply pass on him (because of their cap situation perhaps, why would we need to give Dallas anything?

I believe Dallas did release him.

Rights for a player expire after 2 years (be it if he's sold or doesn't sign a new contract with MLS; if he's a released then the team has no rights to him) so he's up for grabs anyways.

Now it depends on if the Quakes (if they want him)can use a discovery pick or if he would have to be taken in the upcoming new draft MLS is supposed to have.

Waldo: Have you seen Walker play? Someone on one of the other boards made a similar statement to yours about Walker's alleged ability. The response to said statement was, 'have you actually seen him play?'

I also fail to see how having a good year in Chile makes him better than Tim Howard (last seen actually wearing the US Nats uniform), not to mention Jon Conway?

I really don't mean to single you out, but just because an american plays in an international league, doesn't necessarily make him or her better than the players who play in MLS/WUSA. It doesn't make them necessarily worse either. Maybe it means, he wasn't good enough for MLS in the first place and needed some seasoning. Maybe he had the chance to make more money or see life outside the US, all valid reasons.

But, without having seen Walker actually play, I'm not going to label him a future replacement for Cannon/Friedel/Keller (take your pick). If he IS that good, great, then Yallop should spend what little money the Quakes have on him.

    Go Quakes

Jonny Walker is on a tryout with the Quakes. He could be signed over to give Conway some competition, or like what happened to Paul Gasgoine at DC he doesn't join the team.

I'm in the boat where Conway should be given a chance to start, but if the team is going to grab someone they think is the best replacement for their number one keeper, then we'll see. Obviously, this one is a goalkeeper controversy. Let's get it resolved before the season starts, however.

Great news! Conway needs the competition. If he can't beat out Mr. Walker, then he shouldn't be starting...

I personally don't care whether it's Conway or Walker, but I do want to have a better backup than a rookie.

You need to realize that you set the tone for the kind of responses you are going to get from some posters in your original posts on this board. I have noticed that you have toned it down of late and do have some valid points, however when you came through the door like a bull in a china shop you offended some of the regular posters here and are currently reaping the rewards.

I am only going by what I have read in SoccerAmerica. I hope that he is as good as they say, I hope that he is much better than Mr. Conway. The long and short of it is, I have not seen him play but will be at W.Valley tomorrow to get a first hand look. I also hope to see him on Sunday at USF.
    What about you?
