if BL really wanted him, he would be there....

one more season here will not hurt their investment....

    The Good

"...Meanwhile, Earthquakes General Manager Johnny Moore said the team has agreed on new contracts with Coach Frank Yallop and assistant Dominic Kinnear."

    The Bad

"...Two weeks ago, Moore sounded confident that Cannon and Barrett would re-sign after both players told him they wanted to remain with the Quakes. But they have yet to sign, and Moore, who wants to begin shaping his 2003 squad, conceded that he is worried."

    The Interesting

Moore also clarified that the arrangement allowing Donovan to play the past two years in MLS wasn't a loan.

``Our league owns a piece of him,'' Moore said. MLS's current negotiations with Leverkusen, Moore said, are an attempt to extend ``the agreement that was already in place. Hopefully, we'll end up with him forever.''

    ------------------------------------------------
Great to have Frank and Dom back! I'm not concerned with Joe and Wade because no viable options have been mentioned in the media yet. Lastly, this is the first time that I've heard about the league "owning a piece of him". So much for not having any position to negotiate...

The more important news is Yallop and Kinnear re-signing with the Quakes and the Cannon/Barrett item. At least we've heard something different than from the LD stuff.

Actually Garber and co always said it wasn't a loan, but since they didn't release any details, it looked like a loan and smelled like a loan, so most people assumed that it was a loan.

While there are talks of rebuilding the team, look at the quality American players who are on the younger side the Quakes could have back next season: Cannon, Barrett, Robinson, Mulrooney, Corrales and Donovan. With all these guys back, I would feel confident the Quakes have a solid foundation upon which they can build their team.

I don't neccessarily agree that the cap should be outright scrapped, but there is too much talent for the current cap level to be justified. Raise it.

Or, as the NBA does, allow cap exemptions to allow a club to keep the players on its roster.

I'm not familiar with the NBAs rules, could you clarify the specific rule?

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it allows a team to go over its cap to re-sign a player on its current roster for market value. However, if they sign a player from off their roster, they must juggle their roster to fit him under the cap.

It's all meant to allow more teams to keep more players long term -- where baseball and football teams have to juggle to keep their own (or worse, jettison talent to stay under the cap).

I agree with you. I strongly feel he'd be there by now if BL wanted him that bad. I think Landon's going to stay, they're just trying to put the finishing touches on for how long, the contract, and all that stuff. It surely wouldn't hurt them either.

Like Erin said over at Quake Magic...

The meetings were probably just do discuss numbers, and not so much whether h will stay or go.
