Although the HDC can handle a soccer field of international dimensions, my understanding is that the field is drawn much more narrow during the MLS season, simply by preference of the home coaches. Columbus' offense functions better when they have more room on the wings. So the simple question is -- what will be the dimensions of the field for the MLS Cup? Is there a standard decided on by the league? Or does the "home team" get to decide? (Which I would assume would be New York, by virtue of being "Western Conference champions".) ------RM
Why would NY be the home team? I don't think the venue determines that as its been in the west the past few years. If anything, wouldn't you give that to the higher seeded team?
Not sure, but I think higher seeded team is designated the home team. I know that in 2002, even though MLS Cup was held at the Revolution's home stadium, the Galaxy were designated the "home" team. I assumed because they were the higher seed.
