why a college freshman over abby? really o'rilley is NOT all that...certainly not at the level of the other forwards on the team as of now...ape still has to learn a big rule of coaching

its not about likes and dislikes, its about putting the best players on the field.

Heather O'rilley is a phenonimal player for her age...she is NOT better than abby wambach!

While Abby not being on the roster makes me very unhappy, I am not surprised. Being yanked so early in that game - was it the 36th minute or something - gave me the distinct feeling April isn't that keen on her. She may not have been having a spectacular game, but she sure didn't blow 2 or 3 golden opportunities like Mac did.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Mackie, but I don't think Abby did anything to deserve not being on the roster. Angela Hucles, however, did NOT impress me at all, and yet she's on it.

Can't Ape see how well Abby and Mia work together up top?

    Go figure...

O'Reilly is a HS freshman in Joisey.

I'm thinking along the same lines as magiclamp...I do believe it was the Mitchell game in which supposedly Abby did not play well and got yanked. Wasn't Heinrichs quoted as saying some players were not motivated out there or something like that? My guess is that it was Abby she was directing that too.

cachundo brought up a possibility in A&D...what about if Abby is back in Gainesville working on finishing up her degree?

I've got a damn fly buzzing around here in my love dungeon. Damnit.

Maybe Heinrichs is trying to send a message to Abby?

    Hell I don't know.

I was surprised about the roster moves. O'Reilly, I think, is getting free high-level development playing with Team USA (perhaps as a favor to Anson Dorrance?) that she would never have gotten with the East Brunswick Bears.

I think O'Reilly has NO CHANCE IN HECK of making the WC roster next fall. I believe Wambach will make the comeback, since she will be in seasonal shape, fitnesswise, to make the club.

Further, I think there is the makings of a goalkeeping controversy. Mullinix and Scurry are both "incumbents" to a point, both having played in major tournaments. Who will April go with? And there is no LaKeysia Beene or Jamie Pagliarulo or Kristin Luckenbill to swoop in, deus-ex-machina, to take the top job.

It looks like Heinrichs is taking a chance on O'Reilly being on the roster. I might be thinking she might be having her just to watch and observe.

On paper it would have been better to see Wambach and Hamm on the same team since they tend to click very well, especially this past year.

Haven't heard of anything that looks like a rift between Wambach and Heinrichs akin to Arena chewing out on Mathis during the World Cup.

If Heinrichs wins the Gold Cup and qualfies for China 2003, the moves she's made would make her look like a genius. If she loses the group but qualifies or is forced into a playoff then either she's going to take a lot of heat from the fans and the soccer press.

Scurry and Mullinix have been on the big show enough and with their club play they have earned their keep back on the National team. Beene is out for now, and Paguiluro very much played herself out of the team with her club play. I'm a bit surprised that Luckenbill hasn't gotten a chance to show what she can do. Better to have the players who've been there.

Speaking of Mullinix, I'm still looking for her bobblehead. Whoever has one will be greatly rewarded. :D

Heinrichs rewards players who do well for their club. If Wambach does well next year for the Freedom April would be very foolish to leave her off the roster.

    Cheers!

    Cheers!

    depends on the season
So, it seems that with Heather O'Reilly's hip flexor problem Abbs has been called up and will probably see some action tonight due to Mia's injury. Good for Abbs- bet she's a little happier- I imagine she'll play tough to show April that she should have had the spot to begin with. Go Abby!
