Injured Varane not included in Como Serie A squad for the season amid rumours they may cancel his contract.

They can register him in January if fit and not terminated or sold.

Heading towards a sad end to his career which is a shame as I like the guy. Just very happy we moved him on as an injury hit season on crazy wages the last thing we would have needed.

I watched the majority play for United in their time. That's cool but also I am old.

Rooney looked like he hasn't stopped eating since he's retired but still has that magic. Berbatov looks in great shape and could probably still play like he did 15 years ago...

The 2nd part is stupid to me. Everyone and their mama knows that we wont win the EPL title or even come close. So why is it so offensive to be truthful? Its not like your lying to your kids or your girlfriend.

Im just asking in general. I never understood why adults, especially adult men get upset when managers keep it real.

If ETH said we could win this year then you would see everyone in the media and pundits saying he has lost the plot, has no sense of the magnitude of the gulf between us and City etc

who knows why the fans get upset, but the same dumbasses that were clamouring on the forums and fan cams for someone to out the Glazers publicly and criticized Solskjær (yes man), class of 92 etc for not doing it are the same ones that turned on Ronaldo when he did about unprofessional and all that as if outing the Glazers was ever going to be professional.

and to be fair here, it looks like Ronaldo's saying try and just don't admit it publicly. which is fine.

i'd prefer the managers to keep it real instead of having to deal with crap deflections etc. like last week when ten Hag was asked about tactics not working he went off on the second most trophies behind city tangent - why? just say it needs tweaking or it wasn't executed properly.

in the case of the Ronaldo anger when he told the truth i think it's two things - stupidity and naivety.

stupid enough to believe the Ronaldo villain (contrasted with Messi angel) narrative that's been pushed for years and naivety in thinking Ronaldo is selfish and others aren't. anyone who thinks Messi (and others) scored that many goals by being nice and running a charity is a whole damn fool

I think he was fair to say lot of things publicly like training facilities etc. He is ambitious but bit deluded as well.

not sure what you mean by the deluded part but one or two outlets are saying he is restarting some war of words or insults with ten Hag.

my question is what war? he said the guy didn't respect him. so what. no big deal

Media always choose excerpts to shape their own agenda. Deluded part is him not realizing he couldnt have started all games and age catches us all. Ronaldo needed a sane mind around him, IIRC his sister boasting about his past goals record trophies discarding the role nature plays on body and demanding pace of PL. His move was just bad timing although he gave his all and demanded more from others. I think he was also pissed with Greenwood Sancho Rashford for not listening to his advice He doesn't like ETH that's fine with .me as well but his comments on state of club were correct.

well i agree his winding down probably should have been different. he looked fine in the recent UNL games and wasn't snatching like in the Euros. that said at 39 he shouldn't be the main man. it's on the manager to find and pick a better option.

re: his comments - i just find it stupid how United fans treated him. Scholes, Keane, Neville, Solskjær etc. all say the same about competing etc. as ex players and it's fine but when he does it he's selfish and all this other stuff as if he doesn't have affection for the club too

I agree, I find media bit biased against him. Some of English pundits still not healed from WC2006 fallout. On national team it's def on Martinez, Ramos is future and Ronaldo should realize it's in Portugal best interest if he takes a step back and allow Ramos to grow. The situation is bit like at united as he cannot play in week after week and this is exactly I mention about delusional part of Ronaldo in my previous post. He could be a good option off the bench.

unfortunate. these are the kind of beatdowns that lead to sackings.

they seem more reasonable in the Netherlands so hopefully it doesn't come to that

Yeah, young team with a young coach. Heerenveen is not a club that is expected to even make the Dutch top 5. Their plan is to try and catch lightening in a bottle. The kids hit their stride as RVP hits his as a coach and maybe the make a run at the table and get a EL or UECL spot before RVP leaves them for Feyenoord.

    A number of places reporting this;

Have said before that the EPL is not really the place for older players to end their careers.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/ced0yjn3wj0o

Former Manchester United, Real Madrid and France defender Raphael Varane has retired from football at the age of 31.

Varane joined Italian side Como on a free transfer in July but suffered a knee injury on his debut against Sampdoria last month.

The centre-back says he will stay at the club in a non-playing role.

"I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game," he wrote on Instagram. "It takes a big dose of courage to listen to your heart and your instinct."
