Sir Alex Ferguson has opened talks with Manchester United over an extension to his current contract.
The 61-year-old United boss is contracted to stay at Old Trafford until the end of next season having reneged on his decision to retire in 2002.

And on Tuesday, the club's chief executive, David Gill, revealed the club were keen to agree fresh terms with Ferguson.

Gill said: "We would like Sir Alex to continue and Sir Alex would like to continue, so we are holding discussions

Keane will have to be an assistant at Old Trafford before being a manager. Or are there players who go straight on to managing?
