is leaving, this should be of great benefit to DC United, right? Let's put it in perspective. His Airness has left the struggling DC team causing a huge drop in demand for Wizards tickets(one of our competitors for spectators) thus providing United with a increase of potential club season ticket holders. thier loss is our gain. ah yes, the essence of economics. that and the fact that basketball and other non-football sports sucks big time. this should be my senior thesis at umd.
I doubt it will make that much of a difference. People weren't rushing out to buy tickets to watch Michael Jordan sit in a Armani suit in his luxury box.
Wizards - schedule runs from October to April. DC United - schedule runs from April to October. Might want to rethink that thesis, pal...
Hey, what is up with the cheap shots? I'm trying to be a nice guy and you guys aren't helping in this matter. Shame on you. As it may suprise you, UMD accepts only the brightest of the bunch. And that includes me.
Re: ### MODERATOR'S NOTE ### mmm flaming folks.. is that like bar-b-que? nevermind. thank god the caps season is over. oh my god? did i just say that? yes, but their early exist, helps our entrance. sorry to say it.
Sports fans are not fungible. The corporate crowd that attends Washington Wizards games (not to be confused with Kansas ) generally are not going to attend DC United games. It's someone's gain, but probably not DC United's gain. There is one way that it will benefit DC United though, even if we do not get a single extra fan. Now we'll once again be able to say that our attendance is higher than (or at least similar to) the local NBA team. While it's not all that meaninful once TV and ticket price are considered, it does have a certain shock value for those who claim that soccer is a peripheral sport. I'll happily start using that little factoid again. -Digital
Shockingly familiar... I'm not sure, but that may be the team crest from the Vermacht team in "Victory" Just jokes, Knave, just jokes!! As far as MJ, it's kind of a non-issue only as far as it effects how the community, i.e. politicians, civic leaders, etc. change their patterns of support for local teams. In that case, I don't see a problem for United, mainly because we exist outside the radar of the kind of movers and shakers the NBA desires to attract. Just my $.02
basketball???? on HERE?????????? Whadarya. NUTS??????? Mutants in ill-fitting clothes, big damn deal.
Unless Michael Jordan suits up in a United kit and I don't know, scores a goal at RFK, he will have no affect on United attendance whatsoever. The only thing that will increase attendance is putting a better product on the field. Ed
Sign him up, give him some rudimentary heading lessons and teach him the offsides rule, have him go hang out in front of the goal and lob high balls in at him. We couldn't possibly score fewer goals than we are now, right?
I'm not sure who the Vermacht aka "unmade" team in "Victory" was but I do remember a team from the Wehrmacht aka Germany Army...
