    I predict

    Quill Davis Talley O'Brien

IMHO Davis has been playing very well. So he is not on the score sheet. so what? He has been dangerous... hitting the post last night and having a goal called back on a phantom offside early in the season. If you want stats he has 10 shots and 6 shots on goal. That is pretty good for a midfilder. Plus he has improved his defensive game this year and is a much more complete player. A guys doesn't go from team leading scorer and MVP to total crap in one offseason. just my $.02

Then again Nunez has been paying very well and is close to some serious playing time... why not start him.

    you might see....

    Davis Talley O'Brien Nunez.

I thought Davis had one of his better games last night. The Burn like to get the ball to O'Brien so much that I think anybody you put on the left-wing will probably not be noticeable for stretches during the match.

Maybe I'm missing the good stuff Davis is bringing to the game. Maybe I'm only seeing his mistakes. But I mean really...did we watch the same game? I thought Davis was worthless out there last night. It seemed to me that every time he got the ball, he did absolutely nothing with it other than giving it back to the Revs.

But I'm just a fan, what do I know?

I thought Davis looked good last night. He has been solid for most of the season.

next week no Simo, Gibbs, and maybe Garlick. I feel really good about the play of Cassar but it would be nice to have Gibbs & Simo in front of him.

I didn't think Davis was dangerous at all last night. It seemed like he had absolutely zero desire to try and take defenders 1 v 1. Of course, until Pareja came in, I pretty much thought that about the whole team.

I think there's two seperate type of fans and what the expect. One set is happy just going to a game watching players pass the ball around, every once in a while beat a guy one on one, and try to get a goal.

The other half of us like to see players try something special everytime they get the ball. Try to take on the defenders, juke them out of their cleats, go for the bike that type of stuff. I like to pay to see players do things that I can't do or even wouldnt even think to do. Ronnie O is this type of player. An attacking mid needs to be able to dribble through players I dont see this in Brad Davis.

We all want to see players make spectacular plays but it doesnt happen on every single touch. Just because a player doesnt "juke someone out of thier cleats" doesnt mean he isnt having good game or isnt a good player. There are little things that are are done all over the field that are hardly spectacular but are necassary components for a win. Anyone can appreciate a bicycle kick or a bending strike from outside the box, but it takes a true fan to appreciate the "little things" that are essiential to the game.

You can see that anytime...just go see any pickup game and you'll see people who are absolutely convinced that the 50th time they take someone on, THAT will be the time they break through and score that elusive goal.

Completely disagree. He has been playing okay, but MY GOD he is so freaking passive coming up the goal yesterday I couldn't believe it. Is he stressed about something? If he had what appeared to be half the passion of O'Brien he would be sending the ball in and attacking.

Davis needs to be benched to get a fire lit under him. He is the biggest disappointment of this year.

Agreed. Seemingly zero desire to score. There was one play in the later part of the first half that he got the ball even with the defender and literally brought the ball back and tried to cross. Almost like Colin had yelled at him one time and scared him for not crossing.

    I'd like to see

    Salyer Gibbs Jolley Gbandi
    OBrien Stone Pareja Davis
    Fat Toni/Johnson

with Reyes, Nunez definately coming in.

If we know that Toni can't be effective the whole game then we start with Kries and get Toni in a bit earlier.

I would think at least two are not gonna happen - Gibbs is still with USA team (at this point) for the WCQ game 2 return leg in Grenada.

Nothing I can even imagine would get CC to put Stone on as a starter next week.

Talley or Jolley are likely candidates to fill Simo's role (seems perverse that Stone, with all his promise before we picked up Simo is not higher up in the order.

I think we are more likely to see (not saying this is what I would want - just that I think we will end up with it)

    Cassar

    Salyer Behncke Jolley Gbandi
    OBrien Talley Pareja Davis
    Kreis Johnson

I think we'll see Cassar in goal again next week, too. Even is Garlick is fit enough to play next week, I think Cassar needs another chance to play. It'll give Scott another week to be absolutely ready to play, and it may let Cassar in the starting line-up if he can pull another phenomanal game in Colorado.

Man, we are clearly divided on this Davis thing. Half think he had a good game, half thought he for sure sucked.

I'm in the "he was bad last night" camp. And it wasn't so much that he just made a bunch of mistakes or anything like that, he just seemed uninspired. 180 degree difference of what you get with ROB.

I think he had a solid game last night. Nothing spectacular by any means but certainly not a liability. His service on the corner that EJ scored on was a very good ball.

Okay, maybe I wouldn't call him a liability, but in my mind he is a complete black hole. The ball goes in, never to be seen again for the Burn offense. This is what I saw about half a dozen times on Saturday...

Someone gets Davis the ball with some space in our attacking third (usually Gbandi after he kept the ball way too long in the first place). Davis makes a nice dribble to the edge of the box, where a defender comes out to challenge him. He proceeds to attempt a bunch of moves that look like the soccer version of the Riverdance and then one of two things happens. A) the defender pokes the ball away or B) he gets tired of the Riverdance and makes an ill advised pass into the box which is easily handled by the opposing defense. Davis makes some nice runs, but once he gets the ball he is utterly useless. Although, he does contribute nicely on the defensive side.....and everyone knows that Gbandi needs the help. I think we are in big trouble if we don't find a solution to our left side problems. Maybe Reyes isn't much an improvement over Salyer, but Salyer is a lot more solid then Gbandi, so I think we need to try that switch out one of these days. Perhaps Davis will do better with Salyer behind him, but I doubt it. Whatever happens, I know for sure that I do NOT want Davis back in the middle, he has proven to me anyway, that he can't play that role.

I think it might be out of design. Clarke is asking O'Brien to play as a traditional winger while Davis is told to play as a more modern wide midfielder. Davis will inevitably suffer in the comparison because O'Brien is given the freedom to bomb up the field, leading an attack, while Davis must play more positionally sound (read: conservative). Given that logic, I thought he played well on Saturday because he showed more boldness in his passes than in previous games while staying in his role.

    score line
    DAL -- Jason Kreis 1 (Simo Valakari 2) 12
    NE -- Clint Dempsey 2 (Steve Ralston 3, Jose Cancela 3) 52
    DAL -- Eddie Johnson 4 (Brad Davis 1) 74
    DAL -- Toni Nhleko 4 (Eric Quill 1, Ronnie O'Brien 5) 84

maybe getting off the schnide will be the wake up for Davis in scoring terms.
