According to a question posed to Ives in his latest round of answering questions, a person mentioned him as another eligible American due to FIFA's new rule. I looked into him, and he is a winger at AZ Alkmaar, and hasn't found much success since being purchased in 2007 for 3,000,000 euro. Can anyone confirm American heritage of somekind?
Old Poulsen thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=660452 American father, Danish mother. Played against the U.S. in a friendly.
He's clearly got some black in him but as far as him being African-American, I have no idea. I've never heard of the guy before and I think if a guy playing for one of the top Dutch teams had some sort of American heritage we'd know about him. I mean we all knew about Jermaine Jones prior to the rule change. Also I don't think think we have very many (if any at all) military bases in Denmark, so I'd say the chances are slim that his dad was an American serviceman. Not to mention Poulsen is a very Danish name. Any Danes or AZ fans or Midtjylland fans that can confirm this?
football manager lists other nationalities as American. Pretty good numbers on football manager. a left sided player.
I also did some research on the match reports for AZ and came up with a few promising things: He started the last 3 games for AZ, and was on the bench or starting quite often. On his wiki page, it says he has made only 11 appearances, which is undoubtedly not true. I found that sometimes he was just Simon Poulsen, and other times his middle name was included. This would be the cause for confusion. Looks like we found another to flood Sunil's email box for.
It would be useless. Simon Poulsen already has three caps, two off them being European Championship Qualification-games against Iceland and Northern Ireland. So find someone elses young players to steal, plz
No need. I'll see Sunil tomorrow. I'll tell him myself. And no I'm not kidding. I actually will see Sunil tomorrow night. I'd tell ya where but I'd have to kill ya! But I'll drop you a hint. I'll see him at a big function my employer is hosting for two former US National Teamers (one MNT, one WNT)
you must be thinking of youth caps for the U21 European Championship, Iceland and Northern Ireland were not even in the same qualification group as Denmark for the 2008 Euros.
Yep I saw that, damn shame but maybe he simply chose them over us. Oh well, we have a good squad, should be happy.
I believe he was the one who headed a ball into the back of his teammate which led to an Own Goal. I'd be royally pissed if I was the defender that got credited with the Own Goal. LOL
Wow, had no idea he had even a flicker of a chance of playing with us...doesn't seem like it ever was a possibility but he has been quite impressive.
