No one takes online polls very seriously for obvious reasons, but they're still kinda fun in their own alternate universe kind of way. If you find such things moderately amusing, here are three current online polls relating to MLS in Houston in the media: The Houston Chronicle's opinion section has a poll that asks, How should a professional soccer stadium be funded? The Houston Business Journal has a poll that asks, Should public funds be spent on construction of a soccer stadium in Houston? (Note: if you get some sort of "survey error" message with the bizjournal poll, just click on the link again and it should work the second time.) ESPN 790 AM has a poll that asks, Will professional soccer be a financial success in Houston?
Have you visited the SJE forum?? They are taking these polls as gospel. Gawd...this one is getting all the SJE fans' panties all scrunched up in a bunch. They are already using this poll to burn AEG's effigy. To those who don't understand the financial model being pursued for the stadium....[cough] FRISCO...[cough] FRISCO....[cough]....sorry bad cough.
No, I don't think so. We're not that dumb. If anything there is some revenge fantasizing going on that AEG would not be able to get any public financing for a stadium in Houston. But people know these polls don't mean anything. Just for kicks, someone even mentioned the possibility that AEG would move the franchise back to the Bay Area. That's about as far-fetched as it gets.
More goofy polls at the Chron If you want even more online polls, the soccer page at the Chron's site includes two more: In the Sports Poll sidebox: "Which team is your pick to win the World Cup?" and Right below the pic of Pele: "Vote for greatest [player] ever" Sadly, they've taken down their poll asking which player has the best hair. I think Ronaldinho beat out Valderrama. Now, that's serious business.
Uh, every so often a BigSoccer thread just happens to go off on a tangent. Imagine that. The discussion has now covered, among other things, the San Francisco Spiders minor league hockey team, Leinie beer, and the relative size of media markets.
.....that somehow and how this poll somehow signifies something major reg. Houston market, yada-yada..
Maybe a couple of posts, but I think most people weren't serious about it. It was more to just have a little laugh at the irony suggested by the results of the poll at that time. We've seen these types of online polls in our area for things like public funding for a soccer stadium (as recently as about a month ago). We know they don't mean much, and actually had fun rigging them. We had a "yes" vote at about 70-80% for the question "Should public funds be used to help build a soccer stadium in San Jose?". Y'all need to get busy.
