I posted in the Goldman Sachs thread about the new wall street and some of the business/labor news, but I figure time for its own thread. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/goldman-sachs-re-composing-the-greek-tragedy.1345403/ Uber has to pay, but they claim a victory. http://money.cnn.com/2016/04/22/technology/uber-drivers-labor-settlement/index.html

How AirBnB may be keeping business travelers hotel room cost down, by raising rent prices to locals. about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theatlantic.com%2Fbusiness%2Farchive%2F2018%2F02%2Fairbnb-hotels-disruption%2F553556%2F
https://calmatters.org/articles/law...d-his-california-customers-to-play-with-fire/ Elon Musk is selling personal flamethrowers.
Yeah, but at least more people will be able to roast their coffee beans...and their neighbor's coffee beans, too.
Hey, no business gets disrupted unless it deserves to get disrupted. Like taxis with Uber, and rockets with SpaceX. Those artisan flamethrower-makers could have tried to meet the public's demand, but they didn't, and now Elon is all disrupting up their business.
The funniest thing about libertarians worshipping @elonmusk is that he's basically the villain from Atlas Shrugged. He makes all his money from government subsidies and contracts, and by wildly exaggerating production to pump up stock prices.— Existential Comics (find me on bluesky) (@existentialcoms) May 11, 2018
Without calling out Atlas Shrugged specifically, I've seen plenty of libertarian arguments for discounting or even disliking Musk, including (again) the very one made in the tweet without the Randian name-drop. I am suspicious of him entirely on that basis. Most of the reason libertarians have very, very mixed views on Musk. I imagine the Rothbardians would have him burned at the stake if not for SpaceX. It's probably only the Silly Valley "libertarians (when it's convenient)" who actually worship him. I love that he's doing something different in the space realm, but the way he's getting there is no bueno. I think the tweeter only hangs around some libertarians (or, more likely, cherry picks his libertarian views from only the ones who meet his preconceived notions).
A successful libertarian businessman is one who diversifies into a different philosophy when the government can help, John Galt be damned.
Sure, but no more than the successful big government liberal businessman who takes advantage of shelters and other tax cut incentives.
Lessee...libruls do it...conserves do it....an liberts do it. Dang....all three sides! I only know of one side who'd needn't do it. HAIL GRIMES!!!
A libertarian bidnessman is suspicious of govt surveillance. Unless he/she (who am I kidding, there are no female libertarians!) can get the govt contract to provide the surveillance technology
Big City Uber and the False Hopes of the Sharing Economy https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/09/nyregion/uber-nyc-vote-drivers-ride-sharing.html I have seen another articles on how the ride sharing companies do a much better job covering the outside neighborhoods of NYC, they tended to be disregarded a lot by the normal cab companies (makes much more business sense to cruise around Manhattan for fares). I know Curve and other apps out there help Cabs get hailed by customers, so even if rides get more expensive in NYC, at least coverage in the rest of the city will continue to get better. I know that in San Francisco legislation about limiting AirB&B has been debated, so we should continue to see more and more regulation for the shared economy in the future.

I heard the straw that broke the camel's back was the news that one of the main opponents of the Amazon project was going to be appointed to a panel with the authority to approve the AQ2 project.

Well, I don't know about the books, but those expensive magic pills that lengthen my telomeres and give me NAD+ are going to help me live 150 years, fix my sex life, and cure my osteoarthritis. Amazon buyers have them rated at 5 stars, so I know they have to work.
