I have not heard it, and at this point have not bought tickets to see them (spent all my $ on Peter Gabriel tickets ). What's with the title, though -- ()? What's that?
From pitchforkmedia.com: "... the new full-length will be represented by a pair of parentheses, with optional single-quotes, like this: '( )' Some may take this as a sign that the band has nothing of import to say, but they would be smacked up 'longside the head by Rós frontman Jon Thor Birgisson, who argues that the fans themselves are the ones with the true voice: instead of providing a lyric sheet as the band did with Agaetis, Koala Emoticon (as we're referring to the album today) encourages listeners to pen their own interpretations of Birgisson's 'Hopelandish' prose and post them to the band's website. Once the site's database establishes a number of recurring phrases or words, they will be "recognised by a computer program and 'become' the lyrics." ......." There's high concept -- and then there's nosebleeds. (I'll still be waiting for the album though.....)
I say we continually submit the lyrics to "Come On Feel The Noize" to their web site and see if we can make them "official".
Heh. Too bad the Nobels and the MacArthur's have already been awarded this year -- you'd have been a lock. But, back to Koala Emoticon (a fantastic title, I must say): Their website has a ton of downloads: mp3s and videos. I watched the clip from their performance on the Craig Kilborn show, and I was surprised how well received it was. I just get the sense that he has a big frat-crowd audience who wouldn't be wowed by such droop-rock. I'd be shocked of Kilborn had ever heard of them.
Oh, lighten up. Even you admit that it's pretentious. It's good music, but any band that thinks it's necessary to make up its own language and then invites people to submit interpretations of said made-up language needs to be taken down a peg or two.
These guys deserve a gold medal for pretentiousness, but you can't deny that they are not at least interesting in their pretentions. I'm gonna go to the Beacon show, since I've heard that live they are mesmerizing....and I haven't been mesmerized in some time .
I totally like this band. Id never heard of them until about a month ago. One of the guys from madflower put their album on in the tour van and I was in awe of the guitar sound. Apparently he "bows" the strings. Its well awesome. Do they have any UK dates?
I like them, but reading this thread makes me agree they need to be taken down a peg or two. why can't bands just play music?
I hope you enjoy it, I saw them in Chicago last tour and it was great. My roomates favorite show ever, actually. I wouldn't go that far, but they are definately a great live band.
I just saw that a pair of Row A tix to the Beacon show just closed on eBay at only $97, and there's tons more with no bids... Is this a like a secret show, or is the bottom falling out of the scalping biz in NYC?
I just made a 100% profit for the Korn tickets. Its all what band you pick, who the fook wants to go see Sigur Ros?
