I would like to have more specific signs/chants for teams when they come to town. We can keep this a running thread for each team:: ie... "The Windy City Blows" Now for things about Sky Blue....
Now that isn't very nice considering how well they treated us in Chicago. But I guess we can be nice to them before and after the game and reserve our signs/chants for during the game. I can say that there won't be a problem coming up with ideas for the June 20th game. For Sky Blue: The Sky is Blue And We Would Be Too If We Sucked Like You. Okay that was lame. Or you could just use your windy city reference for Sky Blue, too. Sky Blows. I could get into some obscure Fantasy Island reference with tattoos (Tattoo from Fantasy Island and Kai from Sky Blue) and "De Plane, De Plane" (Sky Blues logo), but since I'm the only person who would understand the reference, it's pointless.
I've been trying to come up with good lyrics re-working for a few songs ("Yellow Submarine," "YMCA," etc.) but it's still a work in progress, especially since there's very little other-team-bashing in my ideas thus far. But I'll keep working on it. KC, I actually like that little Sky Blue idea you got there =-)
Another thing unique to Sky Blue is those bright orange road uniforms they wear. I'll definitely have to wear shades to watch the game.
Yeah, if they wear their orange, we should have a 'dodging traffic cones' sign. As backup, if they (for whatever reason) happen to wear their light blue uniforms, we should have something making fun of 'baby boys'. I saw an idea Johnny posted on FB - "Who's your coach now?" ^.^
Maybe something like..."OMG, they've turned into pumpkins." or the old Caddyshack line "Oh, but it looks good on you though." Or "Next time, tell your coach not to be last to pick up team uniforms." On the coach thing, "You're coach saw you play and opted out." or "If I coached you, I'd leave, too." Actually, that last one rhymes. That might kind of work.
Okay, this chant doesn't bash other teams, it's more along the "yay us!" line; the beginnings of it popped into my head a little over a month ago, back during our third week in last place, so be warned. We've never actually been 7th-ranked since, but we've been tied for last place several times, and though I expect we'll win again NJ this weekend, I thought I'd share, since I just came up with stuff to fill in the holes it had a month ago: (tune of Yellow Submarine, with liberties) Who cares? if we're the bottom of the league; We still love our team; The best we've ever seen! Who cares? if we're the bottom of the league, Athletica 'til I diiiiiiie!!! Ellertsoooon, Tancre-edi, Aluko, Solo, and Lori, Larsson aaaaand McNeil, too! Let's Go! our ol' St. Lou! (repeat) Open for edits as well. More on-topic, the song/chant I had to the tune of "YMCA" does bash the other team, so once I get another random burst of idea to fill the holes it still has, I'll post that, too. (The problem I'm having at the moment is, in the verse/chorus structure, I'm trying to get a different 'verse' for each of the other six teams, and am having trouble coming up with good fodder for each team, as I don't know their weak points nearly as well as Athletica's since I see the other teams play so much less often)
Beautiful!! I'm compliling a list so we don't forget half of them like we usually do. I've been working today: We hate Chicago We hate LA, too We hate Boston But Saints, we love you! And my all time (new) favorite chant!!!! :: She play's on the left She play's on the right That girl (Aluko) makes Sky Blue look sh*te...
Also, with the yellow submarine:: "We all cheer for the Green White and Blue The Green White and Blue Green White and Blue Well all cheer for the Green White and Blue Green White and Blue Green White and Blue" just another idea.
I like the sound (in my head) of the yellow sub chant. Start with the Green, White and Blue, the first verse Another chorus of Green, White and Blue then the the 2nd verse. As Season(s) progress, the verses can change but the chorus stays the same.
I saw a monkey sitting on a SWING! Ok little league baseball maybe won't quite work but it might confuse them or something.
With a sky blue sky This rotten time Wouldn’t seem so bad to me now Oh, I didn’t die I should be satisfied I survived That's good enough for now. Sorry - that's the first thing I thought of when thinking of a Sky Blue song. The second thing was Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on. Goodbye, blue sky Goodbye, blue sky. Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.
Some things I pulled away from my 'experience' with the Cauldron today: 1: (note, not chant) Everyone needs to take up responsibility for starting chants. More chanting/singing gets done this way, since we don't have to wait for a leader. (roka, you've been doing a great job, but I felt sorry for how you were reeling yesterday) 2: (note, not chant, one more time) We should associate chants to things that happen on the field more. Sure, we've got two for when Solo does well and one for when Aluko does well, but we need more. I liked how, when the opposing team took a shot that went way off goal, the Cauldron prepped with a "1, 2, 3," then yelled "Nice shot, jack**s!" Not that I want us to do that exactly, but it's the idea. So.... 3: when an opposing team's shot goes high/wide (singing - no, I don't know the name of the tune) "How hiiiigh/wiiiide do you want the goal?" (x4) (repeat)other ideas: I liked yelling "Airball!" also, if goes off the crossbar, we could all yel "Ding!" 4: when an opposing player goes down and doesn't want to get back up or med team called over "Bring out your deee-ead!" <drum> (repeat) 5: when Chalupny's doing well (singing - chorus of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take my Eyes Off You") "We love you, Lori! And if it's quite alright, We need you, Lori, To win the game tonight! Oh yeah, we love you Lori! Lori: love you!"
I enjoyed singing with the cauldron today. I spoke with a guy (John?) that had his army scarf on. I was standing up just past the camera right where the railing started. Siberian did you have your scarf on? I know I saw someone else, I just didn't get to say hi. All the way home I was thinking about how to sing the songs with the extra syllables vs. kc wiz
Yes I did. Showed up at the Cauldron during halftime. Was there with my dad. -edit- oh dang, new page; don't forget to look at the chants I posted, everyone!
As with Siberian's earlier post about responding to stuff on the field. I starting singing this in my head while watching the LA/Wash game. I use Marta but could be used for any player fluffing a breakaway..etc. (clap/drum) Marta, Marta, (Clap), (Clap), Your Mighty, Mighty Fast, At the end of the day, (Clap) Your Shot was Saved, (Clap) And Hope just kicked your a$$
Well we won't face Washington at Home again BUT since I love player taunts I envision next year: We need Cru---tches, Cru--tches, (crutches sung hi to low) (boom) (boom) Cause Abby's on the pitch, (speeds up with faster beat) 4/4 Boom boom boom boom) Cause Abby's on the pitch, 4/4 Boom boom boom boom) Sung 4 times. It didn't edit properly for me, but the 1st booms are on the beginning of crutches.
(to the tune of "America, the Beautiful") O beautiful, for graceful play, For grassy fields of green, For ladies clad in green and white, Our S-T-L home team: Athletica, Athletica, Our song we raise to thee, And crown this team the best there's been, In soccer history! (props to the marketing guy of Athletica's FO for the idea)
Very very good - except the last line - although also very very good itself, I worry that talking about "best in history" when referring to a team that has been around for less than a year is really opening yourself up to mocking from the opposition. How about "And pledge this team, of white and green, the hearts of you and me."
