    As far as I know there are three fantasy/prediction leagues for MLS this year. If there are more, then post the information below.

    MFLS :: http://www.mfls.com/

    The original. Signups start on March 9th.

    MLS Fantasy Challenge :: http://fantasy.mlsnet.com/

    The upstart. Signup are open.

    MLSPL :: http://www.goalleague.com/

    This is new to me. I think registration is open here too. If anyone knows about this league then please say a word about it below. They mention both Barra Brava and La Norte as having been helpful so I imagine someone here does know something about this.

    If you're starting a division in any of these leagues and want to have folks from this board participate then please post instructions in this thread. I believe that Lowecifer is going to run the same MFLS division as last year, and is giving first dibs to all the returning teams before opening it up to the public. Are there any other DC United board divisions in the works?

    And I know that dcuni_ted has started a MLS Fantasy Challenge division also. You can find information on that below.

    I don't know if anyone has started a MLSPL division, or even if there are divisions in that.

    Lastly, this thread is for organizational purposes only. Once the divisions are set discussion should move off this board. Take it either to a private forum or to the BigSoccer Games board. All further fantasy league organizing threads posted on the DC United board will be merged into this one.

    In the Goal League there is a DC United fan division.

    DC United Fans

    it is a web version of the Big Soccer Weekly prediction league and not a Fantasy league.

    Last year we had two DC United divisions for Fantasy Challenge -- one normal rules and one no purchased (i.e., more than 20, IIRC) transfers.

    dcuni_ted, which one is yours?

    Is there interest in having both again? I'm up for limited transfers league again. It adds a different dynamic (and does less damage to the pocketbook).

    Also, it would be great if someone who played both MFLS and Fantasy Challenge could compare and contrast the two for those of us who haven't tried both.

    Finished 2nd in MFLS last year.

    Glad they got rid of the negative points for Non Appearances this year.

    They went overboard in making the foreigner designation this year. Disregarded green cards and MLS definition, lots more players with foreigner tag. And since limited to max of 4 foreigners on your team, this will drive managers to more American players.

    They also have some overvalued players, like 300 K for Adu. Just means no one will have Adu on their fantasy roster.

    Note what position the MFLS lists the player. He can only play in that position. Nice to have defenders who take corners, come forward and get assists and occasional goals. Look for players listed as defenders who play mid or forward, like Jamil Walker last year for SJE. This year he's listed as a forward.

    Key scorers in MFLS 3-4-3 formation are first Forwards, then Goalkeepers, then Defenders, and then midfielders, baring a glaring exception like Preki who is injured to start this year. Hint: Use this info to spend more of salary cap to get top forwards!

    MFLS gives +1 or -1 pt for a goal scored while your fantasy player is on the field. Hint: Have 3-4 players on your team from the higher scoring teams.

    Pay attention early to the cheap rookies who make their starting rosters. It's nice to have a few cheap starters so bench spots have some sub value based on schedule. Will help you avoid using a precious transfer.

    Plan the use of your 33 season transfers based on an analysis of the schedule to take advantage of multiple games played by a team in the same MFLS week. Also, note the international games which will take away key players. Selfishly, for MFLS, I don't mind not having to worry about players missing games due to the Olympics.

    Also, I strongly encourage managers to make an initial draft of popular players, players whose initial transfer value will quickly reach 100. That way you will avoid having to use Salary Cap to pay for transfer fees for some transaction. Start with the popular players then trade to get the team you want while building up your transfer fee slush fund.

    The Sporting News' game: Fantasy MLS.

    I really object to the feature to be able to buy extra trades. I know they want to make money. And yes, they will offer some prizes, but I will not get myself into a situation where I have to spend bucks weekly, to stay competitive in a fantasy soccer game.

    I will only play in a Fantasy MLS division that the managers agree to not avail themselves of the capability of buying extra transfers, like we did last year with one of the DC divisions. Let me know which MLS Fantasy DC division is the no buying extra trades division.

    The Black & The Red will be in effect again this season.

    Check this thread for info.

    I'm inviting everyone back who participated last season, but if I have some folks drop out, I will open it to the public.

    I know that the MLSF (the Sporting News run game) is back up and running. I won the official DC United sponsored league last season (140 teams) and they gave me a jersey signed by the entire team (including Freddy because it was signed late), and a huge foot and a half tall trophy cup with the winning manager engraved on it. And a ball signed by the entire team (signed at the correct time). I was blown away, the staff at DC United REALLY did me right! Thanks!

    Needless to say, I'm psyched for the MLSF (official fantasy linked from MLSnet.com) to begin this year. The link to the league is here:

    I manage the Virginia Hoggs in the sporting news fantasy game. I won the no extra transfers division that we set up last year and placed within the top 200 overall (I won a mini-ball). I set up another division this year called "Black & Red no xtra xfers" for all of you who want the fun of the fantasy league without dishing out the bucks.

    Is DC United sponsoring another official league this year? I started a second team (Cville United) and I'm looking for a division for it (I may purchase transfers for this team).

    Great MFLS tips for those of us who always get a slow start out of the gate. Thanks for sharing.

    Digital,

    If you have any DC United contacts on sponsoring divisions, may I suggest you put in a plug for DC United to also sponsor a no extra transfers DC United division like the one Chemo started. I'll also make my suggestion to DC United.

    Once you've signed up, you might want to have a log in screen to go back and tinker with your team.

    I didn't see any restrictions on number of players from one team? MLS designated foreigner players?

    No restrictions on number of players from one team. You can draft 20 players from the same team if you want.

    I'm not very savvy with web pages yet. Team updates are done manually so I will just email people once they sign up to confirm their roster selections and to point them to their team page.

    If this game becomes popular enough I'll certainly be looking for a lot of help with all of these suggestions.

    I guess what I'm saying is that I'd love to do what you are suggesting but I just don't know how yet.
    Thanks for the feedback!

    Excellent. Great work last year to finish in the top 200 with the no transfer rule in place.

    Prepare for the wrath of Suds United. Hopefully, we will be a team of 'brave little players' during the stretch run. ;)

    My name is Erik Barmack, and I'm the GM of Games for TSN. For the third straight year, we're producing the official fantasy game of MLS, and we've also created official team-specific divisions. Please put your second (or third) team in these spots, as the winner will be eligible for official gear of that team.

    To do so, please go to:

    I was looking about for bargain players with good transfer potential and it looks like a somewhat disproportionate number of people are putting Kevin Ara on their MFLS teams. Some are even starting him. Very interesting.

    For those of you who have played MFLS before, is 355 of cap room good enough?
