I can't help but feel this whole "i am taking a stand" attitude has a lot to with LA's form so far, and Sigi has to somehow cover his ass and spread the blame around....However, i think the game vs. Wales makes no sense

Well, lemme see, The Bruce has called up a team of players from teams that are out of season in europe and two MLS teams that won't be playing this week, and two guys who were ejected from last week's matches and can't play anyway.

I don't see how that's terribly detrimental to MLS. Unless having a week with no games is better than a week with a game for a player (ask Sigi about his team's performance since they had a week off).

Yallop had something to say on this issue regarding Donovan.

Purojogo hit the nail on the head. Sigi's trying to deflect some attention for what has to be considered a crap start for the most loaded team in MLS. To not have a win six weeks into the season is inexcuseable and I doubt highly it has anything to do with Danny Califf or Cobi Jones being tired from national team trips.

Maybe Sigi needs to go back to UCLA where he doesn't have to worry about things like national team call-ups. If the Galaxy keeps it up that just might be where he does go.

I suspect Sigi was making these comments in large part due to the fact that the Galaxy will be without Marshall - Jamaica and Elliott - New Zealand due to callups from their respective National Teams.

However, these comments may also have been based on Cobi being called in for the Mexico match. It is quite easy to see where Sigi could have felt that was unnecessary, even with Cobi only seeing a few minutes of playing time.

As far as the US National Team is concerned, the only Galaxy player likely to get regular callups is Callif.

And how many players are missing an MLS match for the Wales game?

    0, zero, zilch, nada

I'm not sure if Sigi's comments weren't misdirected. This weekend is an international weekend, though LA didn't lose anyone to the kick around (those line ups hardly make it a match) Tyrone and Simon will both miss Saturday's trip to KC due to international call ups.

When will MLS stop scheduling matches the same weekend as FIFA international weekends?

He's probably referring to a long training camp (June 1 start date) for the Confed Cup guys. Since Bruce has said the Confed Cup isn't a priority, but the Gold Cup is, I can only assume Bruce will want some guys from June 1 through the end of the Gold Cup for the most part.

If so, Sigi has a point to an extent.

    Pigs Eye (St. Paul),
Sigi may have a point but how does the US Nat affect him? Cobi is the only US Nat team player on his team. The timing is also poor since a already stated nobody's missing a game this weekend.

When Arsenal began thier slide toward the end of the EPL Arsene said the same crap.

Oddly, previous to The Gunners poor form, ManU were trailing in the EPL and Sir Alex was complaining about club v. country.

Sigi: Shut up, sit down, and drink your Slim Fast!

While it takes balls to say this, it's also kind of stupid. Sigi has hopes of one day being the National Team coach. Does he think this will go down well with the USSF?

Also, why doesn't Sigi rag on MLS for this situation? 18 man rosters put teams in a bind when call ups occur. That's not Arena's fault. It's not Arena's fault that tournaments occur over the summer when most leagues are NOT playing. The problems are happening because MLS plays at a different time of year then most of the rest of the world.

if you get the Confidential, you know this quote was presented in the context of the New Zealand friendly on the 8th, which is one day after a Soccer Saturday.

the real question is why this game isen't being held on a Wednesday or a Thurday, so MLS player could keep to their normal schedule and play the friendly midweek.

What types of food will Sigi be serving at his stand, assuming he hasn't eaten everything...

Re: Re: Re: Sigi takes a Stand

The game makes no sense because the US is placing a makeshift squad instead of anything resembling the USMNT...kinda like what Mexico did a couple of years back with Hugo Sanchez and some players from Pumas. What bothers me is that many undeserving players (like Skandarian) are getting the nod to get a possible spot in the game...The guy has not done anything yet in MLS (maybe because it's only been 6 weeks of the season , but then again that is exactly the point)

I think Bruce is obviously respecting MLS in light of the Wales roster. I don't see what the issue is...if that's what made the guy spout off.
