I know most of you probably don't care about this sort of thing, but think about: what if that had been Chelsea? CSKA Moscow just lost the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal in the history of football and it gets mentioned as a side note about the "bad week" the team is having. How did it happen? Easy. Rosneft (Russia's new national oil company) bought out Abramovich's shares of Sibneft. And, since Putin controls everything in Russia, Rosneft was able to just drop the "Sibneft" sponsorship deal with 18 months remaining on the contract. No penalties. No arbitration. No refund. Nothing: Rosneft just cut CSKA off at the knees. That is how business is done in Russia. So, if you have a brother-in-law who is suggesting you invest in some developing Russian energy stocks, take heed. Whatever money you put in Russia, will be Putin's. Now, what I really want to see is: UEFA going after Putin for illegal breach of contract! Hey, at least it has solved the prolem of Abramovich investing in two clubs.
