http://msn.espn.go.com/soccer/s/2002/1012/1445092.html "We heard that (DaMarcus) Beasley and (Chicago Fire Coach Bob) Bradley said they were going to be in the MLS Cup before our (first-round) series," said Pierce. "We also found out about (Jeff) Cunningham and others in Columbus guaranteeing a victory. It got fired up in the locker room."
Oh geez... The statement they made was that we could have gotten to MLS Cup. The Revs chose to interpret it differently for their own purposes, as could be expected. And big deal,in any case. One positive statement to energise the team didn't make a lick of difference in the series between us. And with Columbus it was Martino, not Cunningham, and only Martino, guaranteeing victory. Again, the Revs are going to interpret whatever statements are made for their own purposes. We lost because we couldn't get the job done, not because of something DaM and Bradley said.
do you really expect a team to not believe they can make it to the finals??? i'd rather they have confidence
I'm sorry, but that was an insult? (And sure, if it makes you happy, go on with the asinine "I can say something even worse than that" comments if you'd like.)
Whoa - is that something you teach at the Lutheran H.S.?? We didn't learn that at Missouri Synod schools. Zach, lighten up about it. Comments by players or caoches don't win or lose games. It is not like they were even talking smack.
Re: kebzach i'd call that smack but i'd also have to agree that L.C.M.S. isnt really down with that either.
First off, this is old news. Those quotes were reported in Chicago papers during the New England series. Why this is an issue two weeks after the case is beyond me. Second, as much as it pains me to say this sometimes, but Hala's right. Do you think that because DaMarcus and Bob said this, that was why we put in one goal in the run of play in three games? If you do, you should quit as a soccer coach because you obviously lack the requisite knowledge of the game. Third, Zach, you are the most pessimistic fan I've ever met. And I lived in Philly for four years. I don't remember one positive thing you've daid about this team since I've been on BigSoccer. You yell about the team, the coaches, the management, the stadium, the other Chicago fans, the weather.... I know that supporters have the right to question the things that teams do, but at some point, you have to provide support. Isn't that part of the word supporters?
in the recent boston newspaper articles, one of their players mentioned that it was fuel for them in the chicago-rev series and also when cunningham did the same thing in that series players are going to turn whatever they can into fuel... that's why they are out there, they are competitors and more distaste or even hate can sometimes push one past the point one normally goes to in a match this can be seen in the way section 8 seems to pick up the intensity in matches against dallas and in the playoffs cause if you really look at it, it's dmb saying they are going and bradley just saying i like that attitude, i'll go with that
At least Zach's team in Springfield has a concept of defense, unlike a certain scholastic club in Champaign-Urbana...
i have never in my life claimed to represent the football team i have constantly mocked them in the most feminine of manners... i mean it seems to be the thing to do i did teach the basketball team everything they know, true story
