Not that I've been following this, but are the baseball teams planning on playing a short season (mostly) in their normal stadiums, with no fans present? Or are they going to open up with "social distancing" guidelines? Yeah, good luck with that...
short season, no fans. using usual stadiums (or stadia if you prefer ) except for the Blue Jays. I believe .... I don't care about the game either. except when the the Blue Jays win.
Blue Jays are playing in Pittsburgh this season. Which is fine since the Pirates won't matter this year anyway. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...-expected-play-home-games-pnc-park-pittsburgh
NCAC, D3 conference in the Midwest, just pulled the plug after the NCAA told the conference their requirements to play, which included weekly Covid tests. The schools just couldn’t afford the cost of the requirements.
Good. Not having the money to "afford the cost of the requirements" is going to save lives. Saving money and saving lives.
oops you spoke too soon. For the second time in five days, the homeless Toronto Blue Jays watched as a stadium plan fell apart in front of their eyes Wednesday when Pennsylvania state health authorities put the kibosh on a deal between the club and the Pittsburgh Pirates to play out of PNC Park. https://www.tsn.ca/toronto-blue-jay...other-home-stadium-plan-falls-apart-1.1498620
Is your daughter's college in that conference? Some of those colleges are not exactly poor. Of course, some of them might've become so by pursuing the NCAA's guidelines. Good call. Unfortunately for the kids.
Although I agree with you and don't disagree with the decision, my daughter was sobbing on the phone. She said since grade school she has been looking forward to her Senior Night in college. She watched three years of it and now there is nothing. She has played her last competitive game with zero fanfare. She goes to Wittenberg, so not one of the rich schools. Two of the wealthier schools in the conference, Kenyon and Oberlin, had already pulled out of all fall sports weeks ago.
That is sad. Sorry about that. On a not completely unrelated note, my partner's last day at work is tonight. She has run the bar were she works for 25 years, tonight they shut down (again) due to COVID-19. Next Thursday, we sell the house and move out of state. No fanfare and there can only be 14 people in the bar tonight due to social distancing. I had a similar occurrence in May when I left my job (of 13 years) after working from my basement for 6 weeks earlier They had a "virtual happy hour" for me. A whole lot of disappointments.
LOL the NHL's newest franchise just announced their team name. Ready? how about: The Seattle Kraken. no I'm serious and I am indeed LMAO. and you thought "Raptors" was bad?
When American Legion Baseball closed down here, several teams went independent and kept playing. Both Pullman and Moscow did so. There were no positive cases for players or fans of either team, so it made sense to do so. I did get a kick out of the Moscow Blue Devils adding the word rebel to their name as an independent - becoming the Moscow Rebel Blue Devils.
Well, if they can figure out how to throw those things on the ice, it will be a lot more impressive than when the Red Wings fans rain down squids, I'll give them that.
Man, that is really, really sad. But she still has a year of eligibility left; is post-grad education in her plans?
