I would like to suggest to the MLS that they figure out a way to work together with the MISL. It would be nice if they allowed the MISL to exchange for MLS players during the offseason as a way to keep the players fresh and in shape. This would also help the MISL increase the quality of play in the MISL to the point it used to be in the 1980s. Just a little tid bit about the MISL the salary cap was in the 2-3 million dollar range for alot of the teams in the 80's more than MLS. That should tell you something about where our salaries need to be. Let's here it MLS. Work out a deal with the MISL. This would be a great offseason league for alot of the players.

MLS players should use the offseason to rest up or train overseas. They don't need six months of playing a different style of game on a rug indoors.

What would the A-League players do? They're the ones who rely on indoor soccer to make enough money for a decent living.

Granted, MLS loses a few marginal players each year because they can make more money by playing in both the A-League and an indoor league, but none of the really good players are in this position. Besides, have you ever seen an early-season A-League match when there are a dozen players on the field making the adjustment from indoor to outdoor? I have, and it ain't pretty.

Now, if you want to talk about marketing, that is different. The Baltimore Blast and DC United mascots have been to each others arenas..

Yeah, and we all know how well that worked out for the MISL and NASL. What is the salary cap now for the MISL? 300K? How much benefit, either financial or skillwise, will MLS players gain by playing in this league?

Having said that, maybe there are genuine opportunities for MISL and MLS league offices to work together. Maybe they could strike a deal that could be a win-win for both leagues. I'm not sure if the target audience is the same, but maybe there could be some sort of cross-marketing deal or cross promotion. I think MISL would probably benefit more than MLS, but it might be worth looking into.

Does MLS do anything with MISL? Do Garber and Ryan exchange Christmas cards?

Indoor soccer is good for practice. That is all.

Who wants to see Twellman injur his ACL being slammed against the wall in Baltimore?

Here's a thought: let each player decide for himself. If he's physically up to playing 2 seasons, fine. If he isn't, then don't.

The insurance covering said player would have to be straightened out first, though. If someone is injured while playing in the one league, the other league's insurance shouldn't have to carry him.

I remember Preki was a hell of a good indoor player. It would be fun to see some of the good outdoor guys get a chance to play indoors if they wanted to.

I'd think that MLS would definitely NOT want its players playing indoor soccer. I know that my son's U17 coach forbids his guys from playing MISL style indoor soccer -- with walls, etc.

He feels that they develop too many bad habits using walls and such and that there's too high a risk for injury on the carpet and with the rough play in the corners and along the walls.

This is a state championship caliber team that will compete in tournaments throughout the winter. They'll find training space on collegiate indoor fields that don't have walls and they'll travel 3+ hours to Detroit to play over there because there's a facility over there that has two full sized indoor fields where they can play regular 11 v 11.

Unlike in the early 80's most Americans now days know that Indoor Soccer isnt real soccer, its just a gimmic. After beeing exposed to International soccer and MLS i dont see how anyone could take Indoor soccer seriously with its 2 point goals and all.
Indoor soccer might be good for off season training during the cold months but it shouldnt be taken seriously, kinda like womens basketball, arena football and roller soccer lol.

Yes marketing as well as sharing players. As for the players having to adjust that ias a load of bull!!! In the days of the NASL alot of quality foreign players were able to do it just fine. High quality players getting alot of money.

As for the wear and tear issue I am not so sure about this maybe you are right.

They're actually doing less these days to share players between the A-League and the MISL. Summer camps are good business, and MISL teams have a harder time doing them if all their players are in Rochester or Portland.

Nothing wrong with the marketing exchanges, especially now that there's less overlap in the Dallas seasons with the Sidekicks moving to the MISL.

The MISL is fun viewing, but wow, it's a different game these days. A lot of these guys are indoor specialists these days, and it shows. I'd be truly impressed with anyone (perhaps excluding goalkeepers) who could be top-caliber at both.

I think there maybe less injuries then in outdoor. I was watching indoor for years I do not remember as many players getting ACL tears as they do in MLS/A league. AS for slammed into the boards since when is MLS considered PANZY!?!?! It is about a tough as a league can get the defenders may let the ball or the player go by but rarely both and that is good.

Why not?? Yeah you would rather the player go to some second freaking schmuck division in Zimbabwe
Why not have them here in the US promoting soccer and staying in shape and making extra money?? Lots of guys have done it just fine. Karl Heinz Granitza, Preki, Pato Margetic, Tony Sanneh. All did quite well playing both Leagues. I am sure even they will tell you that. It would be fun to see some of the better MLS players tear it up in MISL

Indoor soccer being a gimmick is your opinion. I saw alot of high quality players come in through the MISL in the 80's that performed at super levels in the NAS and the current MLS. Preki comes to mind.
