Exiled, not excited. A player like Julian Green and Duane Holmes are the type of players that were on the cusp and had tools that suggest they could have made it to a higher level. No guarantee they would have been able to make it with the USMNT. You defended and continue to defend Berhalter's misuse of the pool and how it will continue to impact the team for some time. You also seem very careful to not be too critical of him. You definitely don't seem like a guy who would rage against a coach, but still seems odd to me. I really don't know what you are arguing. I belive every American who has ever been a part of the USMNT have benefited greatly and believe many of their careers would have fallen well short of what they achieved if they wouldn't have gotten thise extra experiences. I have no clue why you can't comprehend that and arguing players can still improve is completely irrelevant. The only thing that approaches the disaster of what Berhalter did to the program, is Arena in 2017. I have not liked past coaches but I had never been openly critical until Arena stepped in with his xenophobic, arrogant approach to prove something about MLS. It is crazy to me that someone could be a fan of the USMNT and be completely disgusted by their actions. Being a part of a national team and representing ones country is a huge honor. Both of those guys made joke of it. I dont know how players were able to keep their mouths shut while these coaches repeatedly made the team worse by including their crappy MLS players. The time with an international team is extremely valuable, and those guys pissed it away on guys that were never going to help us. You don't think CCV would be more comfortable playing with the USMNT if he gotten another say 10 caps? You don't think every other center back who wasn't allowed to compete for a spot because they were given to Long, and then Zimmerman, and the Miles Robinson wouldn't be a better player? Berhalter never built depth in the pool. So now that a new coach wants nothing to do with Berhalters guys, he is stuck with 15 to 20ish guys and nobody else that is useful has any international experience. I dont know about you, but I'd rather have a player that has acclimated to the team and international play and has 10 caps, instead of guy in his first camp. Your argument implies that you are indifferent 2hich makes zero sense to me.
Unless we recruit Anrie Chase, I don't see a replacement CB being ready in time. We're basically dealing with what we got.
A year and a half is more than enough time for somebody to break out. Maybe we should have used the Olympics to get these young CBs some experience, instead of blowing it on MLS lifers.
Richards seems to have lost his starting CB spot at Palace, 5th straight match day on the bench. He has played 15 games under Glasner, enough for his manager to assess him. Benefited from Glasner using a back three and Guehi picking up an injury in the 2nd half of last season. Seems like the other two CBs outside of Guehi are ahead of him at the moment.
Random post from Doyle. No clue what his point is, but I love getting to the legendary center back Tim Ream get embarrassingly spun. pic.twitter.com/DK8uiqV21f— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) December 17, 2024
Indeed. And not only has Ream been part of the squad under Pochettino so far, he's been the captain in EVERY GAME. In fact, he's started 11 of our last 12 USMNT games. There's no sign that the USMNT staff is sending Ream out to pasture. Not right now anyway. Whether one agrees with it or not, that's the reality of the situation.
