Should the Border Patrol chase trucks with suspected illegal immigrants?

This is a story that's becoming all too familiar out here:

If for no other reason than to break the monotony of war talk, I was just wondering what everyone's opinion was on this subject. Most smugglers will not yield to Highway Patrol or Border Patrol cars, so a chase is almost guaranteed if a truck full of suspected illegal immigrants is spotted. These chases usually end with multiple deaths and are followed by repeated criticisms of the agents or officers who continue the chase.

I'm not sure that anything can be done to stop these incidents short of a policy that prohibits chasing suspected illegal immigrants, but I don't think that's realistic or appropriate...

    Is there another way?

...that might be tough with Chula Vista, National City and San Ysidro all threatening to veto...
