Should the A-League and the NCAA men (college soccer)be our 2nd and 3rd division?. I think so. I dont see Major League Soccer moving toward that direction yet. So this is my solution. Let's affiliate ourselves with A-League and NCAA league. I know there is some type of alliance with many A-League clubs, but lets make it official. I think that the A-League and College Soccer is strong enough to compete with any other second division club in Central or South America and even Europe.

Everyone, please be courteous. Its a newbie

The point of having different divisions is for relegation/promotion purposes. Otherewise just have farm teams.

MLS has an official contract the USL that allows for the transfering of players when needed.

Can't really do it with NCAA since they are all amatures.

Its not that I'm a newbie, the fact is that we dont have a relegation/promotion system. I meant, just in paper, not in actions. Of course you cant promote a team like Yale University, but just find a way to really treat the A-League and NCAA as divisions. I get your point. But this is America. We got to deal with what we have. Got it now?

As you keep posting, your soccer knowledge increases geometrically. It's a remarkable phenomenon.

I've already reached the grandmaster level.

Why would NCAA be 3rd divison when we have D3 or Division 3 and PDL or Preimer Develpmental League or Division 4

I am just telling people to take it easy, since these types of threads happen all the time and people tend to go crazy on people rehashing old subjects.

Depends what you mean by compete. Win in a one off match sure, but the A-league isn't on par with say for example the English 2nd division. The teams run the gament from 3rd division to conference standard. We already have established 4 divisions thru the USL.

    MLS- 1st division
    A-league- 2nd division
    D3 League- 3rd division
    PDL- 4th division

    Actually, we don't anymore.

The agreement expired after this season and a new one hasn't been negotiated.

Could you mention the key points of the agreement? I was aware of it, but didn't know the details, thanks.

The PDL is pretty much made up of NCAA players. and quite a few (if not most) PDL teams are just as good as or better than D3 teams.

So, in a sense, the NCAA is already the third division. Our initial poster should be satisfied.

Screw 3rd division, we only need 2, the others can do what they want...
    MLS-1st division
    A-League-2nd Division

so we go to a straight table, with 16 teams, the bottom 3 MLS get relegated and the top 8 go to the playoffs, and then we ditch the Canadian teams in the A-League and bring the top 3 teams up to MLS and replace them with the our bottom 3...

    hey I can dream right?

    No.

Unfortunately, you've used up your allotment of Wild Speculation Minutes.

You seem to have plenty of Night & Weekend Minutes left, so feel free to make calls during those hours. Just make sure the conversation remains firmly grounded in reality.

He also forgot that MLS is a single entity. There are not 10 seperate teams really, there is just one league. Promotion and Relegation in a single entity framework is just plain dumb. No matter how badly we would want to relegate the DC franchise the last two years, or the Metroscum generally.

Let's also keep in mind that NCAA soccer is completely outside the control of the USSF and Fifa making this obsurd that the NCAA be D3 suggestion impossible.

Didn't BYU decide to enter it's university team in the PDL because it was having Title IX problems fielding a men's NCAA team?

No - you guys don't get it. Its a great idea. Instead of contracting Tampa Bay MLS could just have relegated them to the Mid-America Conference, where they could duke it out with Kent State!

Hey now... That's too much. Then they'd have to play SLU twice a year, and that's cruel and unusual punishment. Nobody deserves to get beat that bad.
