I myself hope to see rugby games at some of these new stadiums from time to time. I'd like for soccer to give other non-mainstream sports a chance because nobody ever gave soccer itself a chance. What do YOU think? Let me hear from ya! Write away!
I actually think it is important that these soccer specific stadiums get rented out for other events. That's just more money for our teams pockets. Whether that means concerts, drum and bugle corp competitions, rugby, or lacrosse, let's get them in there. The important thing with these stadiums is that it is us controlling the dates and the revenue streams.
Meaning things like rugby (union and league), Gaelic football, hurling, etc. Maybe a better term is "non-mainstream" because these sports are not in the American mainstream. Now if we could only start building ovals for cricket and Aussie Rules football, we'd be in business!
anything that makes money. if some mls teams start turning profits, that means more investors and hopefully more stadiums (san jose, please). hell, they rent out pac bell park for football and motocross so anything goes. Would HDC or CCC make good concert venues?
Well it would be a damn shame to have to play on a beat up pitch. but as long as the dollars were right, i guess it wouldn't be a big deal.
If it helps MLS teams turn a profit then yes, they should hold other events. It's common sense, Football Stadiums and Basketball/hockey arenas do this all the time.
Rent them out, as long as the field does not have dreadful markings on them for the soccer games. As long as that is not a problem then why the hell not make some cash on events.
Only if the soccer lines remaine white and football lines are painted yellow, just to show everyone who really plays there.
Naw, invite them too. If they want to put up a makeshift bowling alley on the field, as long as it makes money I say go for it. Although I agree with Matt somewhat...everything about all of our SSS should say "soccer." If, say, a NFL team can't use their stadium and has to use an MLS venue at the last second, it ought to give a constant reminder to all football fans that they're standing in soccer nation.
Just keep the pitch quality in mind, and then, by all means, yes. Landlords make money. Tenants don't.
CCC has already hosted Ohio high school soccer and football, concerts and a few other types of events. I assume HDC will do the same since it is run by Uncle Phil, he made his money on the entertainment industry, not soccer.
only if the stadium carries the teams name now i would hate to go to the new metros stadium and see football lines just because it was rented out to a high school team or any frikin team that damages or alters my beautiful pitch
I recall reading somewhere that when Chicago Fire sent out requests (to Chicago area municipalities) for bids to host the new Fire stadium, they stated that they expected about 50 events at this stadium per year. Some one can do the math and figure out how many non-soccer events would that be.
Already scheduled at Victoria Street. I don't think lacrosse would sell enough tickets on this side of the country.
Dodgeball! Now you're talkin'!! The only problem is that the ninnies and do gooders in our uptight baby soft American culture have all but eliminated the potential for youth developement in this classic sport. Yep, schools all over the country have banned dodgeball becuase of it's "violent nature and survival of the fittest rules". Somehow they think it's not fair to the slower and less skilled children. What a crock. As a parent this issue bugs me....my son's school being a nondodgeball school as of last year. Oh well...
I know you're being facetious. But this is the only sport I dislike because it involves the slaughter of a live animal. What do people think "matador" means?! It means "killer", not "bullfighter"! So even if Anschutz built a bullring near HDC, I would not want any events staged in it.
