Im going to play devils advocate here (and not just coz im bored at work) If we got Beckham plus 20 million pounds for Vieira, id take it. We really need a good attacking right midfielder and we could then get 8 million for Freddy. I know it would be a shakeup, but with that money, we could get Emerson or similar in, cover up front and still have cash left over.......

I'd take that deal too Rick.. i LOVE paddy, but Emerson is more than capable, and the right side is the weakest point on a massive team.. wouldnt mind if they threw in casillas too.. haha~

I think Real took 1 of the last 4 summers off in trying to get Vieira...no way he is going anywhere soon.

What? I mention selling Henry to Madrid and I get death threats. You guys talk about selling our captain and people say, "maybe" or "intriguing". Sheesh.
While Vieira may be your midfield anchor, Henry is a one-off. Not only would it be easier to replace Vieira, should you have to, but it would be nigh impossible to replace Henry.
And I all I was merely doing is talking about what could well happen, whilst advocating selling Henry with no talk about it before......... !!!!! Only kidding obviously, to be hones I was surprised that people thought sensibly about the benifits.
Actually, I think the difference is that we've heard this all before regarding Paddy. It's gotten to the point where the idea of him going to Madrid is not as shocking as Titi leaving. Also, Motterman has a point. Vieira, while amazing, is not Henry.
But will losing Paddy affect the team chemistry? On paper, Becks and/or Emerson are more than capable. Plus it'd be nice to have some cash. But the midfield just works together so well and I feel like getting rid of the anchor that Vieira is would be a detriment, even with the skilled players mentioned. Plus Becks back in the Premiership along with the media frenzy that he already brings. Just doesn't seem like it'd help any.
See Rick we have Henry kits, not Vieira...we have a personal investment in Henry Anyway, I don't why one would entertain getting rid of Vieira.
I guess really what it boils down to is the "boy who cried wolf" scenario. We've heard the "Vieira to Madrid" rumors every summer for about four years now, and frankly, we're jaded.
I think Paddy is just as valuable as Henry. He is the heart of this team and losing him, no matter who replaced him, would have a detrimental effect on our tightly knit squad.
