Out of curiosity--where did the seemingly incorrect info that Trump was hit by glass from the shattered teleprompter come from? It's not a fantastic thing, mind you--far likelier than a bullet grazing him at the angle it did, statistically speaking (lots of pieces of shattered glass>a single bullet)--but while a very believable detail, it appears to not be true, and I'm just wondering how that got out there in the first place.
I'm guessing rando internet poster. The source of all knowledge. Ok that's no help: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/fact-check-rumor-shards-glass-232900180.html Newsmax! So I was right.
I would have adjusted what he said for the comparison to: "Do you know how many LGBTQ people have knocked on my door inviting me to become LGBTQ?"
Sorry I ruined your clapback... Anyway - literally zero LGBTQ people have ever tried to invited me to become LGBTQ, I assume, because they have better options and good taste... C'ept for that one fella in Boston that looked me up and down like a piece of meat 33 years ago on that bullshit Harvard Summer Exchange - just standing at the bus stop, minding my own business, telling the aggro panhandlers to get ********ed because I ain't got money for my own lunch let alone yours - any this ************************ was just eyeraping me, enamored, I assume by my southern drawl
I’ve had a handful of full court presses. I was largely oblivious. One time I met up to study for a math exam that turned into dinner and watching Rent.
OK, I've held my tongue long enough. Donald Trump can go back to sucking my d***. Republicans who read my crap? You can join him. Point 1: Donald Trump is a career criminal who conned his way into the White House and then mismanaged the biggest health crisis the world has seen since AIDS. He's lied, stolen, and cheated more than Eddie Guerrero. (If you're not a wrestling fan, well -- ask someone else; they'll catch you up.) Whether the MAGA people like it or not, he's a convicted felon. He's committed various kinds of fraud, ran a fraudulent charity and is barred from doing business in New York, has been found liable for defamation related to sexual abuse, stole classified government documents and refused to give them back when ordered to, and TRIED TO STEAL A GODDAMNED ELECTION. And I won't even mention the ties to Epstein and the comments he's made over the years about wanting to f*** his own daughter. Point 2: Donald Trump has stoked violence and division for the last decade. Ever since this festering, diseased bedsore on the asshole of humanity decided to get into politics, he's dropped little and big hints about wanting to use violence against people he doesn't like. This is by no means a complete list, but "very good people" for Nazis in Charlottesville, Mexicans are "rapists," "when the looting starts, the shooting starts," "fight like hell or you're not going to have a country anymore," he wants Liz Cheney dragged in front of a military tribunal on TV for the "crime" of not kissing his ass, he calls immigrants "vermin" who are "poisoning the blood of the country..." A few days ago, Biden was talking about the plan to have him replaced on the ticket, and said it was time to focus on Trump, and used the word "bullseye," so now everyone has to act professionally stupid and pretend it's a both sides issue. F**k off it is. Besides, even if Biden did mean it that way -- Biden's own staff doesn't listen to him at this point. You think people are lining up in droves to kill someone because of one comment? Please. Point 3: Every time there's a school shooting with an AR-15, or some other mass casualty event, Democrats want to bring up gun control, and the Republicans cockblock it to death. One of the arguments being "well, we need guns in case there's ever a tyrannical government, and we have to fight them off." Oh, goodie. Donald Trump has tried to end democracy with an insurrection AND a fake elector scheme. He talked about "suspending the Constitution" on social media when he didn't get his way in 2020, and he told one of the talking knuckle-heads from Fox he'll be a dictator on day one. Along with sucking up to Putin and Orban, and basically telling NATO to go f**k themselves. So... what happens? A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN... gets a weapon DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN TRYING TO OUTLAW... and tries to kill A TYRANNICAL CRIMINAL. Thoughts and prayers.
Don't worry Dave, i got you. Ahem... Why are you trying to bring about a TotL? Seriously, though, well said.
I strongly disagree with violence, but I recognize the need in places. The problem is that a hell of a lot of people think violence, casually, solves problems. And we have a plethora of places where we casually talk about using violence (see my example of American football, above).
I hear you. But take the violence out of that game, you don't have the same game left, so preserve it and help children learn to compartmentalize.
Is the bold true? I haven't read much on the shooter, how he got there, and all that other stuff. I've only read a couple of articles on the conspiracies around the shooting.
And the watchers are precinct a 98% chance that there will be at least a quarter point drop in the interest rate at the September FED meeting.
It's not about the sport and how it is played, but how it is talked about. It is a war, quarterbacks throw "bombs," teams "march" down the field, players are compared to tanks, etc. And then there is the creaming the announcers have over hard hits. Yes, football is violent sport, as are all contact sport (think Aussie Rules football). But when I watch ARF, I don't hear the sensationalism of violence around that sport like I do with American football (there is some, but nowhere near the same level).
Used to be acquaintances with this one guy who ran in the same social circles. For some reason, I would sometimes tease him about how handsome he was--I believe some of the women in our circle talked about him in his absence & my presence--until one time he snapped and told me I was being an asshole...and that's how I found out 1) he was gay (I had no idea); and 2) he kinda had the hots for me.
I think you could argue that American football is somewhat uniquely a collision sport, so truly violent contact and a high risk of injury is baked into the sport rather than a potential risk factor.
As I talk about with students, throw in the Super Bowl with its military flyovers, presentation of the colors, cut-aways to see soldiers watching the game in battlefield locations, etc. Sports are often used as a surrogate for war. This was made explicit in some Pacific islands that were colonized. For example, colonial authorities introduced cricket into the Trobriand Islands of PNG as a substitute for tribal warfare. The Trobriand Islanders then altered the sport to make it their own.
