My wife works with a guy who was there that day. The only reason it wasn’t a massacre was because one of the few Members of Congress with a security detail happened to be there. They only had handguns, but were able the keep the shooter at a distance long enough, until Alexandria police were able to get on scene.
It wasn't blanks and it wasn't birdshot. I don't care how good a shooter the person is, being accurate to millimeters in an uncontrolled situation is delusion. There could have been any number of distractions, any number of things that could affect the trajectory. And Trump isn't a sit still kind of guy. If we are really the reality-based political movement, then we shouldn't give credence to fantasies no matter how satisfying. Wait for the truth to out.
He's also a bully and a coward at heart (as many of them are) - no way would he ever agree to something like that.
My larger concern is that Trump the dead martyr would feed the hatred narrative that’s tearing up the nation, especially among the youth. Trump the heroic survivor no doubt also plays into the same narrative, so it’s a lose-lose. But it’s still not quite as strong a story to rally behind as his death would have been, especially in the long term. They can milk it, but it won’t have the same impact. And, let’s not forget that Trump is still a fool and as long as he is alive there are still ways for him to fck things up for himself before November.
No doubt, this probably sealed the election for him. I can see some Republicans that did not want to vote for Trump being moved to vote for him now. This includes right leaning "independents" I do not think this was a false flag, and Trump is very good at marketing opportunities like this, this will be like the mugshot X 1,000.
Especially with the Iwo Jima-esque photos of him with his fist raised surrounded by secret service and the flag.
That comment of his in reference to McCain and POWs was officially the day my dad (a POW in Korea who had been shot 7 times) stopped being a Republican.

Hamilton was himself an expert hunter and shooter, and put his fantasies in the Helm series. The other books were things he saw as possible. Certainly waiting for facts is desirable, but declaring things crazy before the facts are determined is, in this climate, crazy in itself. These people have already demonstrated that they can and will believe anything.
You do realize you sound like a “right wing conspiracy nut” I don't know much about project 2025 but I do know Biden called for trump to be put in a bullseye and 5 days later he was. That seems like something that should get him charged if we are using the Jan 6 logic.
Let's not forget the head of the Heritage Foundation -- the group behind Trump's Project 2025 -- said recently we are in the middle of a 2nd American Revolution "Which will remain bloodless as long as the left allows it to be." You can read this two ways: that he thinks the left will be the ones to resort to bloodshed; or, as I interpret it -- if you resist Trump we will resort to violence to get our way. Either way, it's clear they are salivating at the prospect of violence. What happened yesterday is going to give them the pretense they need. Stock up on ammo.
meh, it's all bluster and internet posturing. we might see the occasional act of political violence here and there but there's not going to be some big violent outbreak. the insurrectionists paid a hefty price for Jan 6... ...lessons were learned.
Look at you! Disproven in P&Ce, relegated to Rivalries... now revealing his mainstream conservative side here again...
So my wife stormed out of church today when the new pastor offered prayers for Trump during the prayers of the people. Her view: we can offer prayers for Trump after we offer prayers for the victims of his many crimes.
But this is different from roadkit. You are more Malcolm X, while roadkit is broadbased. I've said this many times, that I disagree with the violence aspect of Malcolm X, but I can't say it is wrong, because I am not Black.
I'm actually not right wing but thanks. Im just anti liberal at this moment. The democrats are the party of the establishment. You don't think its a problem that all rich people (sans Elon Musk and Peter Thiel). Support liberals and that 90% of mainstream media is left wing? Its almost as if their interest are vested in liberal policies.
If I understand SCOTUS, a US president may send out a hit squad as long as they believe it to be part of their duties, right? Just kidding. The Calvinball Court would just decide that "official acts" are really really bad when committed by someone not on their team. We are so so screwed as a nation and no one cares enough to hear it because that's how other people's societies fall apart, Africans' and Latin Americans' maybe, but not ours.
