Shootout package for 2004?

I'm still thinking it will be way too early to have the answers to these questions. MLS waited till a few weeks before the season to release the info on the shootout package last year.

 

I think the wait will be much shorter this year. They spent the last two seasons working out alot of the promotional kinks between the league and the cable and satellite companies. Look for news much sooner this year. I also think MLS should bump up cost 10-20 bucks for the season. Its too cheap now.

We're already ahead of last year; the Dish Network site says that the 2004 MLS Shootout package is not yet available. At least it's been updated to mention next season.

 

If you feel like throwing money around, why don't you send some to this organization.

Everyone interested should just take a few minutes to call their current cable provider/satellite service and request it. Even if you have no intention of buying it, your phone call would greatly help those of us that will..greasing the skids, etc.

When the CSR inevitably comes back with "We can't find it currently" or some other like comment; just politely and calmly ask for a supervisor. Be secure in the knowledge that it exists. Don't freak. Even better, ask to be transferred to the dept that handles PPV services. In that department there should be someone who can look in the documeneted listing of available PPV shows to find the number or "code" attached to MLS.

There was one last year, there will be one this year. The CSR may have not heard of it, but no matter. If you do this now it will save yourself and others some crunch time efforts and worry in April.

Also, for those who remember the service is usually free and available to everyone that can recieve it for the first week or two.

In the past because of cable provider ineptitude, I have missed one or more weekends of games. I called to complain and recieved full reimbursement for the price of the PPV and still recieved it all year. I can only guess that the CSR who offered the refund thought that $49 was a monthly rate instead of the package rate. Thank you Comcast.

I'd suggest satellite anyway. Comcast is terrible, I just can't afford to switch with all of the freebees I get due to service errors.

There was the time, game time approaching, a full moon out, beers cold as an eskimo...

 

I have a million of these...

like the time i was forced to call back 6 times in one day, july 4th it was as a matter of fact...good times, the people always think you want the MLB package, even been ordered for me when i said MLS clearly 20 times, "we don't have the MLS package", ya you do, figure it out, after about 15-20 minutes, "yes we do have that", ya i know...happens every year...

 

An additional selling point (one which i hope never receives that much publicity as I post it in a public forum)...............

If you got the MLS shootout package the last two years while having Time Warner Cable, you just by accident received the entire NCAA football package for free that they run. Since the MLS games and the NCAA football games are on the same channels, allowing access to one somehow allowed free access to the other. I obviously did not complain as I got to watch a good collection of regional football games I would not have seen otherwise. When the MLS season ended, the NCAA football benefits were lost as well. I think I missed the last two weeks of the NCAA football season, but got the rest of it.

Don't know if they will fix it by 2004. But it wasn't fixed in 2003.

 

let's hope they don't fix it. Also if you happen to move during the season time warner will charge another mls package to your account. Has that happened to anyone?

 

I just spoke with DirecTv today and they indicated that the MLS Shootout package would appear on my next bill and the new cost was $69.99.

It appears Stevedm got his wish for a $20 increase.

 

I had Comcast charge me for an additional package when I moved in 2002. It took me three months to get everything straightened out, but when it finally happened, I actually had three $49 refunds applied to my account. I still dropped Comcast because two years of missed games, late starts, and needless frustrating phone calls wasn't worth it.

 

D'OH! $50 was a great value, and I think $70 is still probably a terrific value... but I still wish I wasn't paying the extra 20 clams. Cash-strapped, and all.

 

I just went by InDemand's website, and the name has changed to MLS Direct Kick.

Probably a good idea. Makes it stand out more with a distinctively soccer feel.

I suppose the $20 is going to R&D on the new name.

Yeah, nothing yet. Still, on the "sports packages overview" page (i.e., for all sports packages) the one photo on display is of Beasley and Mulrooney. Nice to see.

 

In the middle of last season I decided to switch one of my digital cable boxes for unrelated reasons. They messed up transferring the Shootout package to the new box (btw it was still working on the other digital cable box I have). Then I complained and they reset the Shootout package, but guess what? They billed me another $49. It took awhile to straighten that out.

 

This has been true for each of the three years I have had the package. I have urged friends who want college FB to get the MLS package instead.
