Because I wanted to use the thread to have someone ask the front office what they are doing about trying to raise about $10 million in free money.

thats jersey sponsorship has made philly's jersey one of the ugliest things ive ever seen. they look so stupid. 3 Million is not enough money to make your team look like idiots... im not saying the sponsor logo and team have to be a perfect match (LA with herbalife or Seattle with xbox) but damn thats ugly!!

It's ugly but the money made from it can be re-invested in the team.

Offset by *lost* sales from splashing an ugly logo that says "Bimbo" across the front of an otherwise classy shirt....

I know, right? Don't worry, guys-- I'm betting that one of these days, the Revs will get a sponsor that is locally-owned, with a name that has absolutely no unfortunate connotations whatsoever

If I was an owner there wouldn't be enough money in the world to get me to put "BIMBO" on my teams shirts.

I could not agree with you more. It is an unfortunate thing, the company does have a solid reputation in the sport what with their sponsoring Club America and Saprissa, but language and slang is what it is. I know their ads all over that area are "Say Beeem-bo" but uh, nobody does.

Well that shirt sponsor fits in with my general dislike for all things Filth-a-delphia. I did a residency training stint there from 1966-70 and haven't gotten the bad taste out of my mouth since. Other than their mega-pretsels there isn't much positive that can be said for that berg. Classless shirt Logo for a classless team with classless fans in a classless town---priceless. :D

There's that American exceptionalism at work again..!!

Bimbo means kid in Italian..most likely it's some Italian bakery!! Lots of people have this macho crap stuff attitude that's incredible. It's like wearing a pink shirt, etc. etc.

Oh yea..someone wants to give you $3million a year and you won't wear it...Wow, a new level of insane!!

    Lighten up FRANCIS!!

The original poster was dead on..only problem is..Who in their right mind would want to give the Revs any cash for shirt ad space??? Less than enthusiastic and dead crowds. Hardly any national TV games. What else??

Actually it's a Mexican food corp./largest bakery in the world. "Bimbo" is a made up word which has no meaning in Spanish.

Dan, I love you man, but c'mon. If there was an English word that also coincidentally meant "airheaded and promiscuous woman" in Italian slang- would Juventus or Napoli put it on their jerseys?

this is why I'm afraid of the Revs getting a shirt sponsor... something we would feel dumb wearing, and with the Revs brand so weak... your just wearing an expensive advertising t-shirt.

Wow. This vitirol from the positive-thinking Soccer Doc? I'm disappointed.

FITW, I lived in Philadelphia for ten years and it ranks up there with Boston for my favorite city -- it's just a lovely place, with lots of culture mixed with a lot of local flavor.

Does rooting for the Revs really mean we have to crap all over everything that isn't us?

Funny thing about Philadelphia, people who used to live there either love it or hate it. My brother went to med school there, and didn't much care for the place, as did a friend who went to grad school there.
I spent about a month doing political work there, and liked it just fine, even if it is full of Eagles fans.

    Swiss, provolone or Whiz?

Definitely has a negative connotation in English, but that is some serious money that would really help a club. I've got to believe scouting for most clubs would be greatly improved with even a 1/4 of that deal going toward it.

I think you could even have some fun with the marketing of Bimbo.

Hopefully this will get the Krafts asking their people to get a deal done with someone. I was mistakenly thinking shirt sponsors were something like $500k.

I think $500,000 is the minimum.

Doc, welcome to the future we are no longer living in the 60's or 70's. Classless? And its pretzel not pretsels, what kind of doctor are you? Did you do your training in North Philly?

American. And I get your point.

A waitress at a pancake house in Blacksburgh Virgina told me that they didn't have American cheese for my omelet. Surprised, I asked her what kind of cheese they did have other than provolne and Swiss. Yeller, she told me, so I ordered a yeller cheese omelet. And yet I'm sure Blacksburgh is a lovely place to live.

My point is that being a fan shouldn't give us license to insult other people, other towns, other teams. But I realize I'm being a killjoy, so before RevsFanDan can say it, let me remind myself: Lighten up Francis.
