hello, i'm an italian football fan and i'm interested at the origin of football teams could you tell me about the origin of the Turkish clubs shirt? why a club adopted its colours? thanks. Gianfranco
Besiktas is the oldest club, its founded in 1903 during Ottoman Empire. Its founders were young officers in the army and intelligence service, and young diplomats in the foreign ministry. First colors were red and white. But after the Balkan Wars (1912-13) Ottoman Empire lost most of its lands in the Southeastern Europe to Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia... This was a huge loss and sorrow to the Turks because those lands were Ottoman for almost 500 years. Besiktas officals changed the color red to black in mourning of those losses, and said that they would not change it back until those lands are recaptured. Which never happened and the clubs' color remains black and white...
In Turkish land, the first football match was played in Selanik in 1875.Now, that city belongs to Greece. After Selanik, İzmir is the second city(in 1890) and İstanbul is the third city(about 1894 or 1895) But in this cities, non muslims were playing football and having team.the first Turkish club was founded in 1899 in İstanbul and their colours were red-white striped shirt and black socks..Then they were dissolved after their first match by Ottoman rule... About current clubs, Beşiktaş are not the first football club but they had an earlier history on sports. In 1903, they were founded as a sports club with some olympic branches and about 1910 or 1911, they founded their football team..There are discussions about Beşiktaş's colours..Some tell it was red-white and turned to black-white after Balkan Wars.. But recently, an old badget was have come in view and it shows Beşiktaş'ş original colours were black-white.. It is thought as the first badget of the club. But I don't know about the stories of colours'. Galatasaray was founded in 1905 and they were red-white at first.. I think, cos of the Turkish-Ottoman colours)Then they turned to yellow-black (or yellow-dark blue) and after 1907, they have never changed their red-yellow... Some think, those colours were on favour cos they seemed nice to the execetuive. Some think, its roots goes back to 15th century, even to the Galata Sarayı Ocağı in Ottoman army... Generbhaçe was founded in 1907 with yellow-white as a football club. Some years later, they turned to yellow-navy blue..The meaning of the colours are about some local scenes of Fenerbahçe neighbourhood. Altınordu İdmanyurdu was another important team of İstanbul and they were strong till the republic...They were cxompletely a political team under İttihat Terakki control and they were with red-navy blue... I don't know the meaning of the collours but they were founded by some old members of Galatasaray...They were one of the top two teams of İstanbul with Fenerbahçe till 1923. There are many other old and traditional clubs in İStanbul but i dunno if people are interested in them.. But, there are nice teams.. Sarıyer and İstanbulspor are my favourites... Sarıyer are navy blue(boshorus) - white (white seagulls in Sarıyer coast)... İStanbulspor are yellow-black... black comes for martyrs in the World War but i don't know about the yellow..The team origins from İstanbul lycee... Bursa is always called as Green Bursa.. That is for greenness of Bursa.. White must be accessory for green.. Eskişehirspor takes their colurs from Ankara Gençlerbirliği... Gençlerbirliği are the first club with red-black in Turkey..During the 1960s... the president of the football federation and some other key people were from Gençlerbirliği and Gençlerbirliği's men helped Anatolian teams to unit in a city and establish the 2nd and 3rd leagues...Orhan Şeref APAK had a great dominance in Turkish football..It is told, Eskişehirspor board thought red-black as a gesture for Orhan Şeref APAK, a legendary man for Gençlerbilriği history and they tought about red-black.One of them showed a colurful pic of Stade Rennais in a football magazine with red-black shirts.. They liked it and they choosed those colours.. There are many rumours about Trabzonspor, too. Some tell, there were two old team in Trabzon. They had to be merged to join the professional leagues but there were so a harsh rivalry in Trabzon, that was not possible. Then, Turkish federation forced and both teams choose two different colurs. On side chase maroon while other side were chasing sky blue.. Some believe, it comes from the cololurs of "Hamsi".. a fish in Black Sea... Maroon is showed as its colur and blue is showed as its body.. Some believe, one of the executive liked West Ham United collours others accept that with some coming jerseys of West Ham...
Sorry for my last message.. I am ill and after some drugs, antibiotics and some sleep, i am ok now and i have seen i wrote many things wrong.. i have logged in to edit but i can not see the editation click.. For Hamsi, maroon is the eye colour of that fish and silver blue is its body.. but, Trabzonspor uses sky blue and i don't know how a colour silver blue is.. but that is their declaration.. Eskişehirspor wanted to choose blue-white at first..blue, cos Eskişehir is a aviation city.. and white is the colour of a mine ore exists in Eskişehir.. But, cos of it seems like Greek flag, they did not choose and selected red-black.. For old clubs, you can not see blue-white colour much..But navy blue is ok... İzmirspor is a team from the Eşrefpaşa surrounding of İzmir..Two clubs were founded in that area after 1923 and due to the strict rivalry between them, they were merged as İzmirspor by the influential people of that neighbourhood with blue-white colours in 1930s.Then, an old general changed their colour to navy blue-white cos it was seeming like Greek colour. For the clubs older than 30-40 years, it is not easy to find blue-white colour... In İzmir, Karşıyaka is the first club founded by Turks.Their colours are red-green.Red represents being Turk whilst green represents Islam... Another green-red team Diyarbakırspor takes their colours from watermelon. That fruit is so big and different in Diyarbakır, so that, it is one of the symbols of Diyarbakır. Adanaspor's colours are orange-white.... orange, orange as a fruit and white, cotton colour. An important province about agricultural industry... İzmir Altınordu takes their colours from İstanbul Altınordu...
