For a Champions League calibre team with a striker who starts most league matches, sure, but Arsenal isn't that type of club (sadly) and have been rotating strikers throughout. Maybe there's a correlation there....

I agree that 20+ is a rather high-bar expectation. Many good or great teams spread their goals around and that's really a good thing.

Also, I just quickly glanced at the top 2 teams (City & United) and there are only 2 players with higher Goals per 90 than Laca has: Fernades and Gundogan.

I'm no huge Laca fan but I think he's actually playing pretty well of late and without his goal contributions we'd be well fvcked. IOW, I think Jitty is selling him a bit short.

64' Marintelli goes down in serious pain... looks like his right ankle. So sad. This guy just can't catch a break. :(

And now Saka goes down with no contact rubbing his thigh.

And now Saka is down. Holding his left thigh. That REALLY sucks. This long hard jam-packed season is finally catching up with us.

Pray that it's only a dead leg. I missed it live and on replay. So I can't really wager.

    LOL

It's typically minimum expectation to be a league winning/competitive side. Even Giroud had that as his level.

12 is embarrassing for our top scorer (given he has a few games to go)

Oh lord, give it a rest man. We don't have that kind of striker this year. But that's not a requirement to be a successful team.

Meanwhile Martinelli makes it 2-0 and probably just clinched 3 points. Are you upset that he only has a few goals to his name? ;)

Now we bring on Willian who has zero league goals this season in 21 appearances

Like I say. Even Ozil would generally get 5-8

Good pressing leads to a give away. Pepe takes the shot with his left, GK gets a hand on it, but it falls right to Gabi. Right place, right time.

I got to side with Jitty. If more goals were coming from midfield (I think Partey, Xhaka, Ceballos and Elneny combined for 1) or the likes of Willian, it would be less of an issue. But Arsenal need Lacazette to score more goals that he does. He will have one year left on his contract, time to move on and hopefully buy an upgrade.

You should really take a look at Man City's goal scorer distribution this season. Gundog leads them with 16 and the next best player is 13.

p.s. They're leading the league by a veritable mile. One would generally say they are successful.

p.p.s. I would think it's more about total team goals than whether specific individuals get 20+

Even Giroud was too little - we relied on what Alexis added, but we had no 3rd forward and midfield contributed too little

But at least Giroud was a 20 goal per season striker

The fact the Lacazette has 12, and is our leading scorer is just alarming.

More goals in general is needed to get a side into contention. Having someone capable of 20, or multiple players capable of 15, likely changes how a team defends against you and can lead to more opportunities, if you've the right type of creative talent.

right so you are basing your whole analysis on what Pep is doing with a mega squad in a unique season even for him

Thankfully he was able to carry on, and score a goal.

However he's still having to hobble off at 82' to be replaced by Elneny

Well done Gabi, I hope you made the right choice and didn't compound your injury too much.

No I'm not. I'm pretty sure I could find many cases where successful teams had decent goal distribution and didn't have golden boot winners.

Meanwhile Laca just scored another one. I think he's up to 14 now. Care to reconsider your position?
