Oh thanks, I forgot about that, but now I'm curious, did Canada pile on the goals before or after the red?
There is almost no chance that we will carry 8 backs on a 23 women roster! As much as I like G. Thompson, I don't think we will carry 4 outside backs. Davidson is not going to make it. Rudd is much like her n younger with more upside. I think Bugg or Sam will make it, more likely Bugg. I like Sears but Cooper maybe ahead of her. The xtra spot from not taking 8 backs will get Moultrie on the roster.
Caicedo is among the best in the world at her position, so shutting her down is not really possible. But Fox was able to handle her quit a bit. I honestly don't recall her getting a shot off v. the US (though I could be mistaken), and that is something quite impressive. I also noticed Fox taking the ball from Caicedo. I mean just out running her, and that was really noticeable to me knowing how good Caicedo is. Personally, I generally enjoy Colombia, and expected Caicedo to do much more than she did, and Fox gets the credit for that.
In a friendly, you may be right. But this tournament showed how that can be necessary. Girma went off with an injury concern. Reale played limited time and wasn't available to the last two matches. Hayes needed the full defensive contingent, and that is a good possibility in a major tournament. The thing about both Patterson and G Thompson is they play as wing backs, particularly when Fox is on the pitch. Considering the way Hayes has the team play, I don't think it is outlandish to have 4 outside backs. Particularly considering my previous comment. Yeah, I thought Rudd really made her case v. Colombia. The thing with Sams is she is versatile, which is really important in a tournament. Saying that, I'm still very high on Bugg, but well see how she does this season, particularly in the U20s (assuming she is released).
Shalrie was one of the all-time greats of MLS 1.0. Shame he never got to Europe. Former St John's star.
Except for when the USWNT did on the 2015 WWC roster, and that was in a system with less demand on the outside backs although O'Hara at the time was also able to sub in for the offense, too. I'm not saying it's likely, but also not a thing that has "almost no chance" when it's definitely happened.
♫ It's raining 85er’s, Hallelujah It's raining 85er’s, Amen ♫ After being stuck on one (1) interaction with the O.G. USWNT Team for about a decade, recently I’ve managed to move the needle to a cumulative total of 2, 3, and now 4. At the AO night before party in Nashville, I had the honor of speaking at length with Denise Boyer Merdich and Ruth Harker. Ruth seemed laid back while Denise is a little ball of energy – but both absolute greatness. Very interesting hearing their perspective on the Team’s start and circumstances around the USWNT developing into the Greatest Team in the Universe. Had a brief encounter in the Nashville Hotel Bar with Naomi’s Mom and Kennedy Wesley’s Dad. Mama Girma is such a lovely lady. This three-legged trip definitely had an ex-player and player family theme to it. Columbus was wonderful but the cherry on top was the post-match festivities. I walked a block from the Stadium to a small dive-bar called Santa’s Bar to let the traffic thin and UBER availability to rise. Things were pretty mellow until Marty and Janet Lavelle + their family entourage arrived. Many in attendance described it as “all H. breaking loose”. Needless to say a good time was had by all. The bitter sweet finale of Tobin’s Retirement and Match in Jersey was very emotional. The upside was seeing Akers, Dunn and Press for the sendoff. But who would have guessed that the highlight of the entire trip would have occurred after touching down back home in Dallas at the DFW airport luggage carousel. You never know when you are going to meet your newest, bestest friend in the whole wide world.
Stumbled on a YouTuber / video blogger with really good analysis of the US v Colombia game. Worth a watch Definitely a boost in intensity and urgency with the 4 subs at 61st minute, but also tactical changes, especially with how Shaw came back more into MF vs. Sentnor staying high as the 9, with Moultrie then rotating up. Heaps making runs and getting at top of the box gives us more versatility in attack. Yohannes has amazing ball control but is no where near as goal dangerous as Heaps.
