Thank ******** for that. Mr. Elbows has been unable to cut it at the highest level for 4 or 5 years now.

Yes ... I wonder if that banner was hanging anywhere in the stands of the Stade Velodrome last night.

Even if it was not, we should definitely install it as a feature on every "Shearer can still cut it against international-class defences" thread from now on in. Thanks for the link!

I bet that if Shearer had this season down as his last, rather than next season, then he would have been willing to come out of retirement for England. Not that I think Sven should have picked him mind.

If Shearer doesn't want to play for England, then fvck him. Most fans would do almost anything to be able to play for their country, yet he turns the opportunity down. If that's the way he feels, then I don't want him in an England shirt anyway..

At the end of the day Shearer is not sticking two fingers up at England if anything the man stepped aside for the sake of his country. He obviously felt that he could no longer cut it for the national team so he did the right thing & stepped down. Bottom line is the man loved playing for his country
& always gave his all. So really there is no point turning it into a Newcastle V England debate.
