The kid has looked amazing in his first two MLS games, and will most likely improve (he's only 21). Does he have national team potential?

He was absolutely monumental tonight. Does he have NT potential? Surely. I think both he and Hamid are excellent.

Kid is very good. If he keeps this form up, he could have a chance at being #3 in 2014.

But again, let's give him time.

He's only 21, and has looked great in his 2 MLS starts. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

For a goalkeeper, he's still just a baby. He could become very good.

Re: Shaun Johnson? [R for CHI - NYRB]

Hopefully both Johnson and Hamid are the regular starters next season. If they show themselves to be as good as they've been in a few starts consistently for a whole season, a move across the pond may be in order...not to mention both should be in London for the Olympics in 2012 anyways.

Johnson was an absolute beast last night. He has 4 SOLID games under his belt (2 Superliga 2 MLS).

Johnson has Nats potential, he just has to keep performing. 2014 is out of the question though (unless he truly shines at any opportunity given). That number 3 position is wide open though. If Johnson can be a consistent top MLS GK'er then i can see him fighting for it. Howard, Guzan, ???

Perkins? Rimando? Pickens? perhaps even Cervi? WC is not for another 4 yrs, anythign can happen

Still, the 3rd gk'er spot will probably go to the Gk'er who is in form behind Howard and Guzan (assuming they maintain their spots)

Pretty much this. Johnson and Hamid are Olympic prospects. I say they need to prove themselves there before they get looks for the senior MNT. However, the great news is that we don't have to waste an overaged player in goal in 2012.

agree with that, its a damn shame because if there is a position Rangers are secure at its keeper, they got some good ones coming through the pipelines too.

oh i agree with this too, that was one of the secondary things that bit us in the butt in the Olympics.

The kid had a pretty good game for Krists sake, can we wait until he strings together two in a row before we send him off to Rangers, or Man U. or wherever else?
Some of those saves he made more dramatic than they needed to be because of his poor positioning.

You know what, I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets sick of these comments when people have said nothing to the effect of "cap him now". People here have said that if he keeps performing he has a good chance, and that he has "potential" and I agree with that, as do the majority of people here. Get off your high horses, and quit putting words in people's mouths.

What was funny was that when I was watching that game last night I said to myself "some nutjob on bigsoccer.com is going to claim Sean Johnson is the next great keeper for the U.S". I just knew it.

Well, we will know his USMNT by watching his hairline. BB or the next manager better not take a chance on him until it recedes to the proper point.
