Did the Shaq transfer rumors just all dry up and come to nothing?

The transfer window in Spain is open for a couple more weeks, so there still may be something happening. I'd really like to see him playing wingback, where I think he would excel, in a top 5 league. I think he has the capability to be very good, but it would be nice to see him going against a higher level of competition.

Rumors are continuing. I saw one today about Adana Demirspor in Turkey.

Does Tenerife have a shot a promotion this year? If they do, staying for another year would be OK.

I don't like the Turkish league from a USMNT perspective. The speed of play is slow. Probably the slowest among leagues that are considered in and around top 10 in Europe. And it's a retirement league for 30-something former internationals trying to stay in Europe, without a good record of improving players.

And that's not to mention that clubs can be pretty disorganized or recruit too many foreign players for spots available (e g. Boyd's experience).

They all have a shot. But for Tenerife, it's an unlikely one.

Quick update that's not really an update...Tenerife has been very active the past few days bringing players in. They had a press conference today, and the sporting director reiterated that they have not received offers for Shaq. I think the window in Spain closes September 1.

In the press conference after Tenerife's previous game, the manager was asked directly about Shaq's playing time. The response (which was really positive about Shaq -- "Esta fenomenal") seemed to suggest that he was going to be called in for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

It's still useful. so reps are deserved.

FWIW, the window closes at midnight local time on August the 31st. After that, players can only be sold to another league whose window is still open.

I know it's tough seeing the guy do well. The trophy looks really nice in those palms :)

Why do you think it's tough for me? He improved his skill, to be a decent player.

In the end, there were no offers for Shaq -- or at least sufficient offers. Hopefully, with the deadline in the past and no call-up for the qualifiers, he will get back to his starting role.

Once again on the bench today. Definitely early in the season to feel major concern, but that Gold Cup experience (while extremely positive) has led to this run on the bench because his replacement has been solid.

He's played 5 minutes this season, so far.

I want to believe they're resting him for the World Cup.

This is a surprising turn for me. He played a bunch last season, he looked pretty good on an international stage this summer, and he can't get a sniff now. Was really hoping he'd continue on. He already seemed like a safe/solid/unspectacular option for the USMNT

Tenerife is playing super well in the first five games (3 wins and 2 draws) and the defense is even better with only 1 goal conceded. I would imagine it's a manager who doesn't want to change what's working.

Shaq was solid in his short cameo today -- had two dangerous crosses that should have been finished.

They were ahead until the 80' mark and Ramis changed formation to preserve the lead, taking out two attacking players and reinforcing the sides.

It backfired and they lost 1-2.
