Saw coming attractions for a movie called shaolin soccer about 6 guys trained in kung fu that use it to play soccer.
I saw it a few months ago. HOR. RI. BLE. The fact that is was the highest grossing movie of all time from whatever the hell third world country it comes from just shows you how hard up for anything to watch on the big screen. It has about ten minutes of somewhat fun in the middles, but all the god-awful stuff you have to wade through to get to it is simply not worth any human's time and energy to watch.
Well, I had definitely wanted to see it before, but now I KNOW I'm going to like it. AFL's "taste" in movies seems to be directly opposed to mine. PS: I've heard nothing but raves about Shaolin Soccer, though there is some controversy over how Miramax is producing the DVD, iir. I think they may only be selling it dubbed into English, NOT with the original language and then subtitled. If this is true, then I'll never watch it, as I'd hate it so much in the first 5 minutes I wouldn't be able to continue.
I did not like it either. I saw the original chinese version. I think most of the jokes would be lost in any translation.
i liked it because it has soccer....but it is cheep and wont make any money in the united states.... Plus all the asians in america have already seen. it.. if it goes on big screen it will be a joke
I love Stephen Chow movies and this does not look like an exception. I can't wait. And most reviews I have seen are positive. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ShaolinSoccer-1113507/reviews.php
i had it on my computer over a year ago... i liked it... it's funny and deliberate about it's humor... makes no attempt to be what it isn't... only what it is
It's interesting that you can find copies of the video out there, but not from any reputable sources. I'm going to see it no matter what, 'cause I love that of the wall HK stylee of flick. "Mr. Vampire" is one of my faves.
I'm not interested in seeing this movie, but I thought I'd pass along this piece for those who may be interested. From V.A. Musetto in the New York Post, Sunday 8/31: Here's the latest on the Hong Kong martial-arts actioner "Shaolin Soccer" (2001). Its release here has been pushed back for at least the sixth time in 17 months, this time until director Stephen Chow is available to come to the United States to do publicity. On a more positive note, distributor Miramax has given in to protests and will open "Shaolin Soccer" with subtitles instead of dubbed English.
