I'm not that shocked he was traded. His form has dipped considerably over the past few season. It's still pretty weird to see him go though. I give Burns credit for not stayin emotionally attached, and trading a legend and fan favorite, for the good of the club. Good luck, Shalrie!
Don't have a schedule nearby (and just woke up).. do we play Chivas again this year (especially at Gilette).. would nice to give Shalrie the send off he deserves..
Nothing mentioned either way yet. There's a lot of chaff on Chivas' roster. I'm hoping it's not Califf.
Just speculating: we need help at the back - chivas has the rights to Bornstein, or perhaps the return of James Riley. Alejandro Moreno might be an intriguing partner for Bengston.
I'd prefer they just get draft picks and free up (and spend) the money. I hope they don't take on any of Chivas' crappy players. Moreno, Angel, Riley Califf etc...would all be a waste of time and money. This Shalrie move is a move for the future, not to continue to wade in the cesspool.
Don't disagree, but if we're spending the $ this year, not convinced we'll get the type of player we pretty much all agree we need.
Thanks Shalrie for all you brought to the rev's! I remember his first season and his shots were Khano-esque. He grew into his role over time. A tireless worker in his prime with strong, crunching tackles. Quite the versatile player and an inspirational leader on & off the field. His play has diminished this season and coming off the bench must have caused some strife for him & the new coach. Clearly a break from the old regime and the new guys. Free's up some much needed $$$$ and clears the midfield for Rowe, Feilhaber, Nguyen, Cardenas, etc. I don't think we need another forward as Jerry is lighting up London. Need a holding mid or , as always, some help on the back line.
I'd be ok with them being pragmatic and not spending the money this year, so long as they bring in a quality DP in the next 6 months. This season is over in terms of playoffs anyways. They chose to rebuild, and I'm ok with it as long as I see clear direction. Bringing in crap from Chivas is not a move in the right direction.
I'm sure we're still paying a good chunk of Shalrie's salary the remainder of the year. If not, Robin Fraser needs his head examined. But the only rationale I can see for trading him now is to free up cap/roster space to acquire a player this season. Wasn't he on a one-year deal?
I doubt Chivas would pick up Shalrie and then ship out their starting RB in Riley, though I'd be happy with him. My guess is a 2nd round pick in exchange. This does free up cap space for a DP and I can't see any other reason the Revs would make this move now, though a 2nd round pick could produce a decent starter in 2 or 3 years.
Thank you, Shalrie, for all you have done. There are a lot of great memories. Wonder whether the Revs are freeing their salary for impending return of one of the yanks via allocation, e.g. Bocanegra.
No matter his level of play here, SJ was always class on the field. He'll be missed tremendously. Strangely, the 8/29 game has SJ on the season ticket against Chivas.
Shalrie will always have respect from me for his 2009 MVP-caliber season and carrying the 2010 Revs to semi-respectability along with Perovic. Good luck out in LA! I looked at Chivas' actual roster and don't see much that helps us out - who are their LBs? Also, aren't we two players below the roster minimum now?
Shalrie was clearly off-pace, and not our best option at CDM. I don't mind this deal as long as, somewhere, we get a player. Either a player back in the trade, or allocation money (and the DP slot) that we then use, this year...today. Either way, it's just another "dump the salary" deal
I think for this year, it's a salary dump. I doubt we're getting a $400k player back. The second DP slot is now available again.
Shalrie was on a one-year, no? If it was about the 2DP, and about having it for next year....None of that makes any sense to me
Not sure about the one-year deal, but like I said, I do think this was a salary dump for this year (and takes a bit of the hassle away this offseason for re-signing him for less or anything like that).
