I thought I'd start a thread to keep track of who's promoted from Serie C1 to Serie B.

Today Ravenna assured promotion to Serie B with a tie against Taranto.

For Ravenna, it will be their first time in Serie B since 2001, when they went bankrupt and started all over from Eccellenza the following season. (Since the Petrucci rule had not been in place yet)

what are the promotion/relegation rules for Serie C? I know I should know this but...

there's three C2 divisions and two C1 divisions so I'm not sure how it works. i know there are playoffs in C1.

2 teams from each Division go up. (Ravenna is 1/4)

The two first placed teams in each Serie C1 division get automatic promotion.

Then in each division, the second to fourth place teams have playoffs to see who will be the promoted team.

thanks for the update, cassano. it'd be amazing if avellino and cittadella both made it to B. my mother in law's family is from cittadella and the matches between avellino and napoli would be epic. hoping the last part is a moot point if napoli get to serie a but still... what a site that would be.

Cittadella is one of those wonder stories from soccer. They were formed in 1973 and reached Serie B for the first time in the late 90s. During that time they changed their name to Cittadella Padova to gain more of a fan base and moved to Padova's stadium. But then they got relegated and now are just Cittadella again.

I've been to Padova before, it is a beautiful city.

Good on Carl Valeri scoring the goal to send Grosseto to Serie B. Hopefully him and Grella will form a good patnership for Australia.

I like Grosseto ( I've never been there ) and Ravenna ( been there a couple of time, nothing special, awful stadium, but at least it's near ).
I'd like Pisa in serie B ( great ultras, they deserve serie B, actually my second game away was against Pisa, good memories ). And for the C1 B its a coin toss between Foggia and Cavese ( never been there too ).

But... wait, we're not still sure we'll not be relegated in serie C... if it happens I want Monza and Avellino in serie b.

Honestly... going to Citadella is atrocious ( it doesn't change if it plays in Padova, as they did in serie B or in Cittadella, as they do in serie C ). Just like going to a match against AlbinoLeffe, Alzano, Lumezzane, Chievo, Fiorenzuola...
I understand the whole thing about underdogs, miracles in football... et cetera et cetera.... but believe me it's really no fun attending games aginst teams with no fans ( real ones ).

yeah, I guess that is pretty bad. No atmosphere. The Chievo games look so boring, the 60000 seat Bentegodi is only filled with 5000 Chievo fans.

In fact the attendances can be higher but the people there are mainly "sportivi" from Verona, not real fans, just people who enjoy watching serie A, but who doesn't care less about Chievo. If they get relegated, attendances in serie B will be on par with those of AlbinoLeffe, or just a little higher if Hellas Verona is relegated to serie C.

Pisa aren't playing Citadella, they're playing Venezia.

Pisa today tied Venezia 1-1 at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo away, so a 0-0 at home will get them to the final.

I wonder how long it will be until Sorrento are in Serie B again?... they'll be in C1 next season after two successive promotions. Napoli might have a close rival.

Does that mean Citadella didn't get into the playoffs? I checked the Serie C site last night and it didn't look like they did.

Really hoping we don't find out, JJF. Having Avellino and Sorrento and Napoli all in the same division would be great, but I'm really banking on Serie A for my Azzurri.

I've been following Sorrento since I went to see them play three years ago - my "adopted" Italian team if you like. Amazing that they have been promoted twice since then and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do in C1 next season.

Yes. It is Venezia-Pisa ( 1-1 ) and Monza-Sassuolo 0-1. Return matches in Pisa and Sassuolo this weekend.

I wonder if Sassuolo get promoted they will play in Modena's stadium. Because their stadium only holds around 4000.

For the next match they are enlarging Ricci Stadium with new stands ( metal ).
If they get promoted ( which is difficult. They are the better team but Pisa has a lot of political power and huge fan support for the first match, assumed they both go to the final ) they could play at Braglia or at Giglio stadium in Reggio Emilia or even at Ricci if they are allowed by the Osservatorio ( the Ministero dell'Interno agency for stadium security ). This year the played all of the first leg matches in Reggio Emilia because Modena asked them about 30.000 euro for each match, while Reggiana asked them just 5.000.

Avellino lost the first leg 1 -0, so on what basis did they advance? Penalty kicks? Or some other tiebreaker?

    Thanks!

When there is a tie on aggregate, the team who is higher placed in the table win. So Avellino finished second in the table this season and therefore advanced.
