Baggio? Same problem as with Maldini. If we were talking best player from 1988-1998 I'd go along with it.

I don't know, Baggio IMHO was excluded wrongly for ever playing on a big club again. Its still unexplainable and a mystery with what happened to him. To me anyway, he was the best offensive player Italy ever produced or at least from 1975 until now. Really a sad thing to see how he was treated by Sacchi, Renzo Ulivieri, Capello and Lippi..

I agree. But he wasn't the best from 2000-2010, which is what this poll is about.

Well no but he retired. Maybe from 2000-2004 though. Sheva and Maldini didn't play the whole decade either and if they did, Sheva anyway dropped off considerably when he went to Chelsea. Maldini was injured in 07-08 also and in 08-09 he played well but it was his last year.

In that short period I would argue that Buffon and Nesta were the best players in Serie A.

Yeah but as I posted earlier, Sheva anyway dropped off considerably when he went to Chelsea in 2006. He was never the same after that.

    Him too.

Buffon, Thuram, Nesta, Nedved, Shevchenko. In no particular order.

Why are defensive players and/or GK's always excluded from these polls? Just curious.....

It's more difficult to quantify their greatness.

Yeah. I used to think Italian defenders like Vierchowod, Collovati, Gentile, Scirea, Cuccureddu , Benetti, Baresi, Ferrara, Di Bartolomei , Bergomi, Maldini, Nela, Nesta, Costacurta and Tassotti were the best in the world. Isn't it sad these types no longer exist?

Galli was a great defender but it was sad when he couldn't play much because of Billy Costacurta. I'm sure he could have gone and started elsewhere but I guess he bypassed playing by winning and sitting at Milan...

Gattuso player of the decade? I'm 1/2 Calabrese and I relished his "grinta" and loved his reckless style but to be called player of the decade? No way.....

He moved out of Milan in 1996.I think he loved Milan that's why he stayed all those years :D
And I could be wrong but Galli couldnt play much cuz of Tasotti not cuz of Billy.Cuz Billy was a CB and Galli was an FB.Of course this is all from what I've read cuz I wasnt able to witness him live cuz I was born too late :(.I saw old players like Baresi,Galli,Tasotti etc only through videos or match recaps in TV....oh well better then nothing
