I see now that DBS Calcio have listed ratings for this 1963/64 season too. Normally I have been going to a different thread first to post the top 20 etc, but I thought in this instance it could be interesting to add them to this thread, given we have CDS ratings to compare (perhaps CDS is not even one of their sources) and also the specific Player of the Year voting Titanlux found (like msoiux did similarly for 1961/61 too). I suppose it's not unusual for players to be voted Player of the Year without being top of the average ratings (for example in England comparing DBS Calcio's sources for average ratings to the PFA Player of the Year awards or other similar ones like FWA or Premier League Player of the Year, or Fans Player of the Year - sometimes different players win different awards although of course at times the same player wins all or most of them and can be top player with average ratings too).....

I dont understand if dbscalcio is reliable to be honest.

I mean, why they dont say clearly what are their sources?
Lets say Serie A 1990-91: did they use Gazzetta, Corriere dello Sport, Guerin Sportivo, La Stampa or something else?
Whats the point to show the "average" without saying what is the base for that average?

I do think it would be 'nicer' and easier to follow and verify a bit even, if they had columns for every publication too and then a final column for the overall average. That would require a big tweek to the website, and a bit more work entering the data I suppose, but it'd certainly be clearer.

There is a bit of discussion about this earlier in this thread anyway I know, and personally it does seem to me also like they are probably entering genuine numbers, calculated by combining the scores from various sources, but the results do depend on which sources are being included and which ones not of course. The Guerin d'Oro was done on a similar basis but with a more clear set of included publications, and obviously it's more 'official' too, but it only goes back to 75/76:

italyratingsawards4780.png Thanks for the rep MJW!

Actually, I thought posting tables comparing the ratings and awards could be kind of helpful and informative, so I'll make a start on that now, beginning with the seasons 1946/47 to 1979/80 (depending on availability), as shown above.

A couple of things I would add:
    - Comparing DBS Calcio ratings to the Guerin d'Oro, it tends to be that when the Guerin d'Oro winner doesn't top the DBS list, he is still not far away from the top (for all these years in the 70s certainly very close).
    - The DBS ratings do seem to be periodically adjusted, I assume mainly to add new sources, but also to correct mistakes (I'd previously looked up the ratings and posted them in another thread, but the above table is as of today and the four differences to what I'd found originally are two seasons where a player with seemingly very high/suspect ratings had been removed from top position, hence clearly a correction of a mistake I think, and two other occasions where a different player ends up at the top after some addition of sources I think....and for both of these Juliano now appears at the top where before he didn't quite).

While I'm posting I'll add this too that I recently noticed, albeit not strictly related to Serie A ratings - it is a newspaper from the day of the 1958 European Cup Final and I translated a bit of what was said on page 6 (the 3rd item in the preview viewing window): basically a comment about Di Stefano's influence in the Real Madrid team and Schiaffino's influence in the AC Milan team being equal, and a comment about Liedholm as the strategist of Milan:

A few changes occured in this next period too: another correction, a change for 81/82 that previously had the same top rated player on DBS Calcio as with the Guerin d'Oro, and 10 seasons later a change in the DBS ratings that removed Baresi from 1st place that he was shown as being in when I'd originally checked:

And this final table brings things up to date (unless there are other media votes available to add in some years for example - I remembered about 66/67 and 67/68 being discussed before on Big Soccer, and used Titanlux's finding for 63/64 of course)

Watching this i really dont understand. We know that Guerin d'Or is based on Gazzetta+Corriere+Tuttosport+Guerin Sportivo...and somehow DBScalcio got basically all different winners for the 80s and 90s. So what are their sources? Something like La Stampa or other newspapers?

It seems uncertain and like I say maybe additional sources keep getting added too, as it seems the ratings change slightly for some years at least.

But La Stampa as one of them (for some years at least) seems a reasonable guess. For example here Gullit is top and no sign of Massaro among the top rated players by La Stampa, according to Football-ratings.blogspot:
Football Ratings: Memory Lane: Serie A 1993/94. (football-ratings.blogspot.com)

For the following season La Stampa isn't labelled as the source in the same way, but this list might still be from that source potentially (the presentation is similar with top rated referees provided too), and does have Savicevic top and likewise Sousa doesn't feature among the top rated players:
Football Ratings: Memory Lane: Serie A 1994/95. (football-ratings.blogspot.com)

Sorry, I made a mistake on this one I realise (and I'm not quite sure how!).

Thuram's name shouldn't appear in the Oscar del Calcio award column. Roberto Mancini won it that season. I fully realised that but somehow typed in the wrong name!

In fact the Foreign Serie A Footballer of the Year with the same source that season was Zidane rather than Thuram too. Other Foreign Players of the Year that weren't the overall Oscar del Calcio winners were Gabriel Batistuta in 98/99, Andriy Shevchenko in 99/00, Ibrahimovic in 04/05, and finally Kaka and the Honduran David Suazo jointly in 05/06.
Serie A Foreign Footballer of the Year - Wikipedia
Likewise Italian Players of the Year with that source, that were not the overall Oscar del Calcio award winners were Alessandro Del Piero in 97/98 as well as 10 years later in 07/08, Totti in 00/01, 03/04 and 06/07, Vieri in 01/02, Daniele De Rossi in 08/09 and Di Natale (the top rated player with DBS Calcio's sources overall indeed as shown on the final table I did, correctly that time!) in 09/10.

This 1966/67 was probably the one I was most anticipating (and there are other relevant threads I might post it on another day even perhaps, like the 1966/67 Players of the Season thread started by @Tom Stevens ), and it's the final one that fills in the previously existing gap on DBS Calcio (the ones from 1967/68 were already available as well as some earlier ones from back in the 50s and early 60s, as shown by @msioux75 and others on here a bit already too)....

So here is the 1966/67 DBS Calcio average ratings top 20 for Serie A (the second half following in the next post again)

Hello to all those in the Big Soccer Forum community. I'm completely new to all this so please bare with me. I found this site whilst attempting to search for the best possible Serie XI's from 1952/53 onwards. It's tragic that Serie A only recently started the official recognition of a combined XI for a 'Team of The Season'.

I should have endeavoured to start my search for the best elevens of Serie A from the 50s onwards but better late than never eh?

The source isn't clear but browsing Whimsey's (@decinitive) Twitter page I noticed a media award went to Sivori for the 1965/66 Serie A/Italian season, with Haller 2nd and Vinicio 3rd (all up there close to the top with Corriere dello Sport/Stadio averages as per DBS Calcio, but not with the very highest)
    Tweets with replies by Whimsy (@decinitive) / X (twitter.com)
    upload_2022-6-11_14-15-27-png.217271 (424×755) (bigsoccer.com)

So it seems like Janich as top rated player as per DBS Calcio for that season, but with Sivori taking a media poll (the same one as for 1963/64 as shown in this thread possibly?).

By the way it seems like for 1974/75 to 1999/2000 the difference (as per the link I posted in the post above) between DBS Calcio's ratings and the Guerin d'Oro is that the latter incorporates the grades of Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport and the former just Guerin Sportivo and Gazzetta dello Sport
    Guerin d'Oro - Wikipedia
However, other sources with ratings existed - I believe this one is from La Stampa for example (and then there'd be La Repubblica for another one, and some more....)
