So I have discovered I have more seasons to add, so I will slowly proceed with season 1993/94.

For this season teams retooled and one of the major new signings was Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp. Ruud Gullit and David Platt transferred to Sampdoria, while it was the end of Frank Rijkard at AC Milan and Scifo at Torino. Another departure was Claudio Caniggia, suspended.

So GS forecasted with all the major and local papers on who would be the best foreigner, the best Italian, the top scorer, the revelation and the Scudetto champion.

The best Italian and top scorer was forecasted to be Roberto Baggio. The best foreigner Dennis Bergkamp. The revelation A. Fortunato. Inter Milan was favored to win it all with the high expectations of a frontline of Bergkamp, Sosa and Dell’Anno.

Every team was forecasted with their projections and aims.

The Scudetto candidates were AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Parma and Lazio.

The teams that aimed for European qualification were Sampdoria, Roma, Atalanta, Torino, Cagliari and Napoli.

The following teams’ aim was to reach Europe or stay in Serie A: Foggia, Udinese, Genoa

Reggiana, Cremonese, Lecce and Piacenza, would fight to survive relegation.

After the journalists made their prognostications, now GS had its readers send in their votes. The results were virtually the same. Roberto Baggio would be the best Italian player and Dennis Bergkamp would be the best foreigner.

Dennis Bergkamp was arguably the most hyped up foreigner since the days of Platini-Maradona. The level of expectations for him was probably the greatest since the borders of Italy reopened for foreigners. Not only was he arriving from standout seasons in the Dutch league but also had already established himself as one of the best forwards at Euro ‘92. Now joining forces with Inter Milan, many believed that they were the top favorites to dethrone their rivals, AC Milan.

The Fiorentina 6-2 Foggia match had some ridiculously poor standards of defending. For a Serie A match of that era the lack of coherence in setting the offside trap is hilarious to watch.

Hi Pastacalcio, thanks for asking. I had a look and found Adalberto Bortolotti’s forecast of each squad in that season. I’m surprised I looked over it and did not publish it. He rated every team with their objective and with what was in their favor and against.

    This is what I found:

In that particular season, I don’t know if there was any poll conducted regarding that, but that information was not published in Guerin Sportivo.
