Another miserable year for Italy in Europe.

    - If Juventus can get a top striker, then they will be Italy's only shining light.

    - Milan have already thrown in the towel on this season.

    - Lega Calcio should just do Italy a favor and relegate Udinese to serie B like....right now.

    In EL

    - I have no idea what Inter will look like this season. I doubt they will take this shit competition seriously.

    - Mazzarri has already said he will use the Europa League as a good place to make youngsters play......

    - I think Italy's best bet here is Lazio

As for the Europa league in general :

stramaccioni and moratti have already expressed the desire to win the competition as well as several of the players, of coarse they can't say we're just going to puss around and see if our subs can get us through the group stage
we still have to get through one or two qualification matches to get into the group stage

france has its own problems cause they already got taken over by portugal, france will have newcommer m'pellier and psg in cl and perhaps lille who performed horribly in a weak group last season
they do have some formidable teams in EL worth looking out for
    portugal i'm more worried about

ya same here, portugese teams do extremely well in EL at least. I hope at least inter or lazio take EL seriously and actually try to win a trophy....at the end of the day its a trophy, especially for lazio and napoli who usually dont have a shot at scudetto or CL...So why not win EL at least

ah but let's not forget, inter 2 finals in a row and managed to win the second one in 98, winners 3 times and runners up once tied with juve interestedly enough
of coarse this was more than a decade ago

Italy will fall behind Portugal at the end of this year if Italian teams don't earn 2.277 coefficient points more than Portugal this season. Italian teams have a big number coming off the board next year, while Portuguese teams have a small number. France is also on a similar number to Italy after this season, so there is a chance that they could drop to 6th, which would mean that there would be two Group Stage spots, but no playoff round guarantee, as the 6th coefficient has to start in the third qualifying round.

These next two European season are going to be crucial to staying close to third. If Italian teams have two bad European seasons, they could drop as far as seventh behind Holland, who put together a good European campaign last year.

Inter will face the winner of Hajduk Split/Skonto FC in the third qualifying round on August 2 and August 9. Split is from Croatia, while Skonto is from Latvia. Currently, Split hold a 2-0 aggregate lead after their victory yesterday. I can see Inter easily brushing either of these teams aside.

The draw for the playoff round in the Champions League and Europa League is in 3 weeks.

I'm sure that Split will take the money, just like Dinamo Zagreb did with Lyon in the Champions League last year, to let Inter go through. I look for at least one game to finish with a scoreline of Inter winning by 3.
