This is a great week to see what Tillman's got. This is a man with 25 goal contributions across all competitions last season. Champions League last year he had assists against Dortmund, Sevilla, and Lens. PSV lost none of those games, by the way. In 4 Eredevisie games this season he already has 2 goals and assist. He's healthy and he's a stat machine at a pretty high level. UEFA coefficients tell us the Eredevisie is right on the heels of Ligue 1. In fact, from 2020 thru 2023..............Eredevisie teams garnered more points in those coefficient calculations than French teams. Last season the French teams did to keep the Eredevisie behind them. That doesn't mean Tillman is going to do it. We need to test him and find out I would start Tillman in this Canada game with Musah and Johnny. All three of those guys are U23s. Tillman is only 22. Olympics age-eligible. Sometimes I think we underestimate how young this team still is. Aidan Morris in the midfield was too. We gotta give these guys chances. I'm starting Morris against New Zealand.
Re Brenden - you should distinguish between size on the ball and against the ball. I wouldnt even call Tilman in. I think his play is a ball and chain the rest of the team has to drag around. Otherwise, one of the problems with Berhalter ball was that he had a rangy 6 (Adams) who was elsewhere on a lot of goals from the same spot (centrally near the 18 yd line) in Qatar. Musah had a hard time leaving his mark to fill the gap and McKennie was absent because Berhalter thought he should play the 10 (which was tried at Schalke, Juve, Leeds and USMNT and always rejected as a solution). If you look at the few minutes Adams got with Bournemouth at the end of last season, he was ranging to the touch line while opponents were zipping in behind him to score right up the middle. For the above reasons, I've been waiting for the moment when Johnny and Adams can play as a duo. As long as you keep QB Johnny between the hash marks, he should be in good shape getting back to fill the hole when Adams scrambles ball side and pushes the ball wide. The duo should work well in possession since Johnny usually sets up about 10 yds above the box where he can do his thing which includes a pretty good shot on goal. If we are lacking passing out of the back, we may end up using Aiden's passing more and one of Johnny or Adams would sit, if we don't play all three. Aiden might be more valuable when Aaronson isn't available because Aiden can play pretty good counter pressing and shooting/passing in the attacking zone.
I had to revise the lineup I'd like to see several times due to injuries and we appear to be out of wb's (no AR, Weah, Kev) so I'll go back to a 4321 over my preferred 3421. ----------------------------sarge -------------brenden--------------pulisic ---------aiden----------johnny-------musah ----lund--------ream----------CR--------scally ---------------------------gk: ? Pulisic's defense under Piioli last year was pretty good. He can help out on Davies or we can switch Aaronson to that side. I'd rather have Brenden around Aiden, tho, to help with progressing the ball out of the back. US Soccer roster from their web site: GOALKEEPERS (4): Ethan Horvath (Cardiff City/WAL; 9/0), Diego Kochen (FC Barcelona II/ESP; 0/0), Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew; 1/0), Matt Turner (Crystal Palace/ENG; 44/0) DEFENDERS (8): Auston Trusty (Celtic/SCO; 2/0), Marlon Fossey (Standard Liege/BEL; 0/0), Kristoffer Lund (Palermo/ITA; 3/0), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse/FRA; 13/0), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC; 61/1), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace/ENG; 21/1), Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach/GER; 11/0), Caleb Wiley (Strasbourg/FRA; 2/0) MIDFIELDERS (6): Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis/ESP; 15/0), Cade Cowell (Chivas de Guadalajara; 8/1), Luca de la Torre (Celta Vigo/ESP; 22/0), Aidan Morris (Middlesbrough/ENG; 5/0), Yunus Musah (AC Milan; ITA; 39/0), Malik Tillman (PSV Eindhoven/NED; 12/0), FORWARDS (6): Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United/ENG; 42/8), Folarin Balogun (Monaco/FRA; 15/5), Ricardo Pepi (PSV Eindhoven/NED; 28/10), Christian Pulisic (AC Milan/ITA; 71/30), Josh Sargent (Norwich City/ENG; 25/5), Haji Wright (Coventry City/ENG; 11/4)
12 appearances for Tillman. That's multiple * the game samples to say whether he did well or poorly over a significant period, to try new guys. We have a finite amount of caps to burn. You're always too caught up in how many minutes it technically was. It's <400 minutes in part because he was bad. If he was good, he'd have played more in those games.
This badge team just played Kazakhistan to a goal-less draw. ---------leipzig------man city----atleti ---------brann------bodo/glimt---arsenal -----alkamar---mainz-----------rennes--dortmund Kazakistan had one guy in their back 5 + GK who plays for Zenit in St.Petersburg, otherwise all were Astana or Apokte in Kazakhi domestic league. Gotta say, I'm over Jesse. His "I'm already half Canadian" and dragging our players. F off. I hope we pummel them. And, when Jesse gets fired, let's see how Canadian he feels. We know how well he takes rejection.
Amount of bad days matter, because a couple you can write off as getting up on the wrong side of the bed. W/ 10 of 12, or whatever it is, that's just who you were then. And 5-6 games worth of starts is very significant internationally anyway. We should be making our decisions based on your average in 3 even. So he's gotten 2 sets worth.
johnny didnt look good for us for a long time either, hes had one pre-copa and a couple of good showings there in total. tilllman will get there or he wont. ...but since these matches are meaningless. id rather not lose to canada. that means aaronson today and he can do whatever hes going to do against nz, and honestly its not a tough decision unless youre entirely too fixated on club ball during this, an intl window.
I think it’s funny how he winds people up. Being mad at Jesse when Poch is going to be our manager is like sulking when the woman you decided not to ask out makes the most of the guy who did. Who cares?
Totally wrong. It's like a woman talking to a man she has no interest in, being nice. The guy stuuuuupidly thinks he has a chance at a relationship. Then when he sees her flirting with someone else, he gets pissed and starts calling her a slut. No body thought the Fed was going to hire anyone other than Berhalter. That interview w/ Marsch was purely for show. Marsch is trying to slut shame the Fed.

Concern…so many passengers, too few drivers. Tillman, Lund, Richards, and Johnny (all of whom I am fans of) have yet to be assertive and take ownership with the USMNT. The three midfielders in particular are capable of some entertaining and effective soccer…its just a matter of how much they take ownership of what goes on out there.
Schulte is the most interesting pick. Everything else is about what I would have expected here based on prior lineups. Even Lund over Wiley, I guess, since Lund had been favored in prior camps as well.
The Fed was only slutty when it dumped Bradley and dropped its drawers for Klinsmann. They were just being nice, talking to a loser in the quad, when they talked to Marsch.
