Well, it's out, and... Oh... my...God - St. Bonaventure stands at #12, 2 places above St. John's. There's something mighty suspect about a team that lands in 12th place from nowhere after wins over perennial powerhouses BGSU and Oneonta State.

The lesson here seems to be that you should follow the D1 football model and schedule walk-overs the first part of the season.

BTW, Wake Forest is much better than 22. I look for them to compete for the ACC title this year. They're good!

Good point. St. Bonny's jumps into 12th by beating two teams who were ranked 103 and 121 at the end of last season, while Wake sits at 22 with a win and a tie. At least none of the other polls were willing to wreck their credibility in a similar fashion.

St. who? I expect Wake to probably be in the top 15, if not top 10, throughout this season.

How 'bout a link for us novices. All I can find is poll on collegesoccernews which thankfully doesn't mention St. B.

Here's the new rankings, the previous column is a bit wrong, as American was NOT ranked #14 in the last poll. I don't know what other errors there are.

This new poll further shows how bunk the rankings are. Maryland was #10, won 8-0 and lost 2-1, and fell out of the rankings??? What is that? They didn't even receive votes, that's nuts. Either the #10 ranking was bunk or their current lot is, you decide. Meanwhile, Kentucky goes 1-1 and moves up? These rankings are really, really lame.

Having looked more closely at these, it appears to be some strange quirk that falls from the regional rankings. Maryland was #5 in their region, but this apparently doesn't qualify them to trump a program like St. Bonnies, which was unbelievably #1 in their region (the only team with 2 wins). Coincidentally, SUNY Oneonta's head coach is also the voting chair for that region.
