Have the Uzbek's fired Cannavaro? Maybe he's in the mix for all we know. This could be the surprise that Malagò's been mentioning.

Yes we need to be humble...Spalletti was really the worst choice possible in this respect.

    I am gutted about Baldini.

    I support Palla.

Buffon and Bonucci need to be kept as far away as possible.

I do support Pirlo. Always have. I'll lose all respect for Pirlo if he is trying to lobby by including Buffon and Bonucci. Then I will immediately turn on him and call him the worst choice. Because Buffon and Bonucci are a disease to the Nazionale.

oddly, I am ok with Mancini. But just ok. whatever.

Everyone knows I think Conte is the worst (after Lord Allegri when it looked like Max the Magnificent himself was in the running)

TBF, I don't think anybody is lobbying for Bonucci. He is under contract and would probably join the staff of whoever is brought in.

Also, Buffon seems to Maldini's idea.

I would love Palladino I wish he went through the under 21s first but he is the perfect manager for this period. We don't need someone to win Euro 2028. We need someone to stabilize and put a structure in place that we can build on. He is the perfect hybrid where we can use a modern Italian style. Whether it is 3421 or 433/442 he understands the kinds of players we have.

I am happy to see Pep shut down the smoke, so we can move on and discuss realistic targets.

Palladino is an interesting profile. I am happy that they are discussing by all accounts some interesting names who deserve consideration.

I just really hope we give up on the Buffon/Bonucci inclusions. I've said many times on this board but they can come view the games as fans or give the odd speech to the dressing room. Having them around simply as "winners" really does not do anything for the current group. We need actually technical minds under salary in positions to help give this current group the best chance to succeed. Not Buffon with some pom poms on the bench.

Per La Gazzetta, Andrea Pirlo is leading the race to step into the dugout for the national team. [IMG]

While this likely shuts the door on any wild Pep Guardiola rumors, it marks the return of an absolute legend.

The Maestro controlled the midfield for years; now he’s tasked with controlling the future of Italian football from the sidelines.[IMG]

Do you think Pirlo has what it takes to succeed at the international level? Let us know in the comments!

I do think he has what it takes if his resolve in the role is more like Zoff and less like Donadoni.

Zoff didn't give three f's and went about his project. Of course at the end Zoff told the press to kiss his a$$

Donadoni I actually liked but he let the Italian press confuse him and second guess. He still put together a respectable 2008 EURO and took Spain to the brink, but he let the Italian press make him chase his tail which was the goal of the Italian media the entire time.

As horrific as missing 3 world cups has been id rather that than be england and in the last 5 tournaments to lose 2 euro finals, 2 wc semi finals and 1 world cup quarter final.

Totally agree with your comment. Bollini badly cocked up the under 19 euros, would like to see pirlo take over from him and be under 19 manager and see how that goes.

Now is not the time to gamble. Pirlo although a lot better than gatruso still is a huge gamble ge shas won nothing as a manager and lacks the needed experience. Mancini is the best option by a mile. If he gets the job he will call tresoldi and hopefully he switches and he will pick the best players and play youth and work well with baldini and the other under coaches. He has a good relationship with Malago also. Id have mancini as manager also would have a role for baggio and tomassi instead of buffon and bonucci.

    Malago as president
Maldini as technical director and leonardo as advisor.
Mancini as manager. Baldini under 21 manager. Pirlo under 19 manager, he would inspire the young kids im sure of that.
Roles for baggio and tomassi would be great as well both have a lot to offer. No buffon or bonucci please. Also hope maldini talks to albertini for advice and support at times as he also would do a good job in a role within the federation. Zola involved would be good as well in some capacity.

This could be a long post but I’ll try to make it short. When I say this generation can’t play a good football, it’s because we lack a high level playmaker in the midfield, and in the 3/4s. We also don’t have high level attacking wingers. Also you have a generation of defenders that are locked in to a back 3.

The only position where we have a talent surplus is the terzini/ wingbacks. Palestra, Kayode on the right. Then you have Ruggeri, Bartesaghi, Udogie on the left. These players have legs and allow you the play the length of the field. I would build from where I’m strong. Tonali, Pisilli, Vergara, and Kean are all good against the run of play. Add a strong CF who allows the team to club the field (Pio) and that is a team with an identity.

This is how I would coach Italy if Maldini hired me.

    Pioli to Pirlo to Palladino.

Who will be the next candidate? I say Motta or Montella.
