Esatto. Conte per me sarebbe un disastro. Non e' l'ora di stringere 5% di piu dai giocatori. E' ora di ricostruire e di rischiare con i giovani.
So SKY says that there in fact contact between Maldini and Pep, but that Pep wants to take time off because “he’s tired”. Clearly not interested L'Italia chiama Pep Guardiola 📞🇮🇹https://t.co/7tOZGGKFgf— Eurosport IT (@Eurosport_IT) July 16, 2026
Vabbeh....... https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Estero/16-07-2026/guardiola-per-ora-non-torno-in-panchina.shtml beh almeno si smette co sta storia che era assurda fin dall'inizio
Gigi #Buffon could return in #FIGC: Giovanni #Malagò and Paolo #Maldini are ready to offer to one of the greatest italian football legend a role in the Club Italia. #transfers— Nicolò Schira (@NicoSchira) July 16, 2026 The replies are hilarious. If they hire Pirlo and also keep Buffon and Bonucci again, we will be missing a 4th World Cup in a row. Stop picking players you've played with, this literally just prevented us from reaching the World Cup.
Palladino is interesting. Young coach with some success. The thing I like about him is that he's not dogmatic. He likes a 3-4-2-1 but he's very adaptable and tries to maximize the strengths of his players. At Fiorentina, he played a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 because that's what was called for given his talent. I also like that he gives young players a chance. He coached the Monza youth teams. Let's also not forget he got Kean to have his best year ever under him.
I like the Palladino option a lot better than I do the Pirlo one. I think Palladino is the right age, and between his gig at Fiorentina and Atalanta, he’s already familiar with a lot of players in circulation. The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that a Gasperini style 3-4-3, 3-4-2-1 is the way forward. It think it’s a perfect compromise between our tradition, the current landscape of Serie A and the modern game. Like it or not, the back 3 is probably going to be the path forward for the foreseeable future. Whoever takes over the national team has to contend with the fact that not one of our defenders are good in a back 4. The negatives about Palladino is that he still tripped up a couple of times. He fumbled a golden opportunity at Atalanta. The team was tailor made for him but he couldn’t convince. But I still think he’s learning
Another thing, I said this after the second Norway loss, but this generation cannot play football. Everyone looks back at Mancini’s Euro win with fond memories, but that’s not something that can be easily recreated. We have enough weapons right now and incoming that can allow us to be a dangerous team on the counters. Whoever takes over this team needs to realize this.
Palladino was my preferred option back in April. I had written it a few times. If it's Pirlo, I'm not as down as some of you, but I would prefer him to build his CV a lot more. Because as it is, he's only getting an interview because of who he's played with (maldini & leonardo)
Gun to head, he would take Pirlo. Because of the trust factor (ex teammate). These top tier football circles are small but how well does he know really know Palladino compared to his ex 3 teammates (Pirlo, Conte, Mancio)?
So many names from a previous U21 Italy team. He was an OK player. He wasn't afraid to take players on. You notice on many of these goals... like a natural scorer, he passes the ball into the net.
it is ironic it is clear we celebrated 2006 so hard that we froze ourselves in time and now to break out of it we are trying every player from 2006 that we can. Milan did this too when they tried Inzaghi/Gatusso.
At that time I was really big on Palladino but it also shows that the drop off in our best talents started in the 2000s not the mid 2010s. We had enough of our golden generation left but guys like Palladino Barone Zacardo and others were showing a clear drop off.
The only thing I will say about Pirlo is that Scaloni did not have a huge resume nor did de la Feunte. What makes a good club manager and a good national team manager is not the same thing. We saw this with Trappatoni doing worse than Maldini/Zoff even going back to 1982 Enzo Bearzot was coming off being the under 23 manager. And again in 1990 Vicini was the under 23 manager. We used to know how to do this and then we forgot. I want Baldini and if Pirlo wants to be manager for 2030 he can take the under 21 job and then slowly you move him up.
If Maldini doesn't know Palladino all that well I'm sure he would get input from his son who spent time with him in Bergamo. A lot of this really is going to depend on Maldini's care what people are saying. There's been a backlash between supporters and media about hiring friends (Leonardo, talking to Buffon, and this Pirlo one seems to be the last straw). Does he draw the line with Pirlo or does he say ******** it, I'm gonna do me and pick who I want. IMO, we can eliminate Conte.
Like all Italians he will pick a friend that he wants to work with. If his son was a manager he would pick him.
It's mid-afternoon in Italy. They'll probably make a decision this weekend and announce monday or tuesday
It’s funny I was just watching these highlights the other day. Italy vs. Portugal friendly from 2008 in Switzerland. Palladino playing winger and supporting Di Natale and Toni. We wiped our ass with Portugal who had a prime CR, Quaresma and Nani. Man we used to be a real team
Oh dang yes i watched these the other day too! We were still so good if more players carried on we could have won Euro 2008. When we have a solid defence and a proper regista we are a nightmare to play against. Wild that Totti was only 32 and still destroying people but we did not have him available but thats just how the culture was back then you retired from the national team at 30. If we can build a solid defence and find a regista I am not too bothered with the rest of our players. I think they are mostly good enough to compete it's just those two areas that make us a mess and expose everyone.
