Pep isn't touching this team with a 5 mile pole, why would he tarnish his name with a rebuild project that's going to take serious time to solidify?

Now the journalists are starting up with naming them all again as they did in April.

Ok...this is great news! They must have given Maldini quite a bit of power or he wouldn't have taken that role!

I also like that he brought in Leonardo. I never even thought about him, but he's a FANTASTIC evaluator of talent. Remember, he found Kaka and Thiago Silva among others. He also was shrewd enough to spot and sign VERRATTI from Serie B while the Serie A clubs snoozed as usual.

    This is quite promising.

This is over his stint at Inter 16 years ago? Who cares. All I know is that the guy has a very good eye for talent. We could use more of that since our scouts in Italia seem to be certified morons.

I have to give it to Malago at least. True to his word, he’s leaving it up to Maldini to decide the next coach.

️ F. Capello's interview with Gazzetta: Leonardo? "He's someone who knows football inside out. If Maldini wanted him by his side, reforming the duo they had already formed at AC Milan, it's because there will be a lot of work to do. We need to make up for lost time in many areas, starting with the development of young talents. They accepted this mission because they deeply believe in it. And I repeat, even if it may seem obvious: they are both very competent and, more importantly, they understand football perfectly."

The question becomes why would Guardiola coach Italia on a reduced salary? He's not Italian, although he's been known to be an Italo-phile. He's not getting big money. He doesn't have loads of talent at his disposition the way he did at his clubs. He doesn't have 365 days a year to coach his team.

    So why would he come?

The only reasons I can think of is that a) he is bored and wants the challenge of facing off against Klopp b) the Spanish job isn't going to be open for a while or c) he sees enough talent in our pipeline to build something or d) the man he looks up to the most (Roby Baggio) has said he'd go on his staff?

This would be an EARTHQUAKE to Serie A owners though. They would NOT like this. Why? He'd call them out for playing slow dinosaur calcio EVERY chance he gets. Secondly, he wouldn't put up with Serie A owners screwing with his team (the way they bent over Gattuso and gave him no extra time to prepare for the playoffs).

So, while I want Mancini, I sort of relish the idea of Guardiola being a BALL BUSTER and disruptor.

I can completely see him doing this which is another reason why we won't see him on the NT

Pep is from Catalonia and has shown support for Catalonian separatism. Safe to say the Spanish job is never going to happen.

So if he really wants to coach the international game, Italy is probably a good option for him because he has roots here.

I also like how he stayed patient, but sort of drew the line in the sand to get Maldini to make his decision and move forward with this chapter.

So far, so good with Malago and staying true to his word of what he wants. Clearly Maldini was the man for the job in his eyes and will be having the say to really steer things how he sees fit - starting with CT.

Pep would actually be better as the guy who runs the techinical aspect of the federation and responsible for 'training and development' the next generation of Italian players. I have a feeling he would implement the original Baggio plan. I can't see it working as a coach because A we don't have the players and B he doesn't have enough time to implement his ideas.

Another thing it highlights how a lot of these journalists act in bad faith. “Malago wants Maldini and Maldini wants Conte!” That’s what we read for two weeks. Gazzetta dello sport has become a propaganda outlet

Yes. Agreed. They are clearly becoming mouthpieces for self interest from parties involved as opposed to doing actual journalism.

We have to believe these guys are involved as candidates, but Mancini also has been so vocal about wanting to come back, we can read between the lines on a lot of these stories.

I am actually happy and want Maldini to do a full deep dive and proper due diligence to go through candidates to get the CT he covets.
