Unless Liverpool want to sell Leoni at a loss because of his injury, I really don’t see how Juve can even afford him right now. The time to buy Leoni was when he was 17 and playing for Samp. As long as he is fit and praying no mors injuries.then i think leoni will be playing regularly under iraola at liverpool. Leoni has everything to become world class

FWIW, Roger Ibanez made the correct decision to pass on Italy when Mancio went calling. Now he's in the Starting 11 at the WC.

Leoni needs to stay at Liverpool. He got his ACL out the way. Next season I want 1,000 plus Minutes from him. September callup. No ********ing around.

 

A big year from Leoni and he sky rockets to the top of the CB list, that game he got injured in he was being praised for the way he played too. Shame he went down. Would be our first elite CB in a number of years if he pans out. Also with Ibanez shows Mancini has a good eye for talent, but also how bad the talent pool was there

Some sources list South Africa (2-0 losers) as 3-5-2 but most outlets have them as 5-3-2.

The only national team that I recall played a 3 man defense and was successful was the 2002 Brazil team. But they had Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Ronaldo lol.

Other than a few of the non-Bayern German teams, no one outside of Italy plays a 3 back that is remotely good.

The times we made the final (Euro 2000, Euro 2012, Euro 2020, World Cup 2006) was always a 4 man back. I'm not going back further, this is just recent times. Even all our successful youth teams never play a 3 back.

Big win for Australia tonight. Lots of Italians on that team. Volpato, Circati, Italiano, then a DMF named Okon-Englster, whose position and name sounded very familiar. His younger brother is one of the best players on our U17 champion team, he has also played for Australia U17 so hopefully he sticks with us. Antonio Arena is another.

4-2-3-1 is what I see.

 

OK. This makes sense. Last week when I pulled up pictures of Okon-Englster I kept getting pictures of a player that looked nothing like Gianluca. I was looking at pictures of his brother Paul.

Italy once again showed they are asleep at the wheel. Circati has an U20 Italy Appearance and could have grabbed him before he went to Australia. He's a good player but Scalvini adds more offensive punch and Giovanni Leoni is right there pushing his way through.

He's the Captain of the Socceroos. This one might have worked out for all sides.

 

Both Australia were playing with three in the back however, as did Switzerland. Czech and South Korea both with a 3-4-2-1 as well. Scotland went with an interesting 4-4-2, as did Canada. At least the 4-4-2 is not dead, the next coach for Italy could consider that.

 

You would have qualified if Bastoni didn't get a dumb red, or Kean could hit the net at least once more.

The only reason Canada got back in the game is that Bosnia was tired. Canada better fitness, but horrible at taking and making passes, like really really bad.

 

Formations aren't static though. The important aspect of the 3-5-2 is three in the back. After that, tactics are constantly on swtich and fluid. Like for example, that formation wasn't the problem vs Norway where Italy played four in the back. The problem was Dimarco and Di Lorenzo are not defenders, not on their team and shouldn't be on the national team. Coaches that used them poorly.
