How the hell did Italy lose to this Bosnian team? They’re terrible. Oh yeah, to even things out Bastoni decided to make Italy play a man short for most of that match.
Bosnia were playing better than us before the sendoff and their goalie gifting us a goal doesn't change my perspective on how things were going. Like ItaNapoli said, we were playing scared and it was no different to our approach vs Norway. We need a big shakeup in regards to our personel bc these guys had multiple tries against teams that are not top tier and failed.
The team lost 7-1 on aggregate to Norway. They gave up 4 goals to Israel. They didn't believe in themselves or their CT and they played like it. It's not healthy to engage in the "what ifs". What if Gattuso wasn't a moron? What if we had won that stupid home field coin toss? What if Bastoni wasn't a moron? If this team qualified, we would see no change at all. And, we need MASSIVE change to build a team that others are afraid of. I'm happy our Under teams are playing well but that isn't enough. We need these shitty Serie A clubs to step up and start developing them.
Although I agree they were playing tight, it’s a stretch to say Bosnia was outplaying us before our goal. Bosnia loses that game easily if Gattuso had half a brain and Bastoni wasn’t so stupid. Italy were comfortably in control after our goal. Canada should easily be leading by 2 or 3 goals in this game. Bosnia is who we thought they were, a very lucky team to get through. Even they didn’t have a chance to go through to a major tournament till the 2028 Euros. I do agree wholeheartedly we need major changes to our lineup and team structure.
I understand. It hurts me also. But we absolutely do not deserve to be here. Even if we somehow qualified, the same problems would just keep repeating. Calcio needs a deep reset and rebuild. Only then will we be back.
I agree 100%. Tactics are the least of our problems right now. We need good selections, a solid team that can play without obsessing over tactics or winning, a young core that is expressing themselves and having fun on the pitch. Results will follow naturally.

Canada likely would have beat Italy today. Italy have the better players but Canada the better manager, tactics, teamwork, and more experience together.
Better to avoid the embarrassment, we just need to focus on this rebuild. Hopefully we have a good U19, the winning culture at the younger levels will help get rid of this weak mentality that has crept in from not making the World Cup or from when Spalletti came on board.
too much of a what if .. the reality is Canada got the same result agains Bosnia as Italy after 90 minutes and Italy played a man down for 60 minutes. Canada exposed Bosnia's weakness and used their physicality and athleticism. Italy's best 442 with similar profile players could do the same and better. But Canada has enough depth and Kone is a serious midfielder that they should not fear the Swiss and see what happens at the last 32 anything is possible.
Fair point about Italy being down a man. What did you make of the Bosnia fan numbers? And second how do you think the split would have been if it was Italy versus Canada?
I think it was just not meant to be. It is good for Canadian football and the city of toronto to have this moment just be about Canada. If it was Italy it would have been amazing of course but to me thats just a non reality and impossible thing that was never going to happen. Out of sight out of mind. Somehow there were a lot of Bosnian fans in the streets many more than were at the game. I guess all 10k Bosnianians that live in toronto hosted a family member. My neighbour accidentally nought a single ticket among the Bosnian ultras and the leader told him he was not welcome to sit there so he had to leave. They caused a lot of havoc that the cameras were trying to ignore. I don't think the ultras realize that police in north america are not a suggestion like they are in the balkans. a few bosnian ultras were beat up pretty bad for trying to fight with Toronto police. They learned the hard way why in north america we just do what the police say at public events.
Of course. It does not get me emotional or angry in the same way with Italy but I had a canada t-shirt on and was watching with friends and it was a lot of fun. Some of the scenes in toronto were insane. Very surreal to host a world cup game.
I was and still a little soured out how Canada fans/ the stunt the CSA pulled with the jersey swap/ Jesse Marsche's comments. But it's not the players. Honestly these guys are about the most likeable players out there. OK, Laryea dives, Roberto De Zerbi thinks Kone is a shithead who doesn’t take well when he is subbed off (when at Marseille), but the players are fine. You likely will never see any of the Canada guys be in the news for the wrong reasons. I saw Bosnia players post social media pix flipping the bird, saw a Bosnia fan post a AI picture of Toronto being destroyed in a war. As if their team showed anything today to suggest such a thing could happen. And why would you do it anyways. Something I don't think a Canada fan would do to another host city.
